Y Tywyddiadur

Prif nodwedd y gronfa hon yw'r dyddiad, mis neu'r flwyddyn penodol sydd yn sail i'ch cofnod. Mae'r tywydd wrth gwrs yn rhywbeth sydd yn digwydd "rwan", pryd bynnag yw neu oedd "rwan" i'r cofnodwr gwreiddiol; y bore yma efallai, diwrnod arbennig yn eich plentyndod, neu sylw mewn dyddiadur dwy ganrif yn ôl yn sir Feirionnydd.... efallai. Neu efallai bod cysylltiad y sylw a'r tywydd yn ymddangosiadol wan iawn: tylluan wen yn hela am dri o'r gloch y prynhawn ar ddyddiad arbennig o Chwefror; clywed y gog yn canu ddiwedd mis Mawrth; teilo cae at datws ddechrau’r gwanwyn. Tywydd....? efallai! Ffenoleg...? yn bendant.

Mae'r Tywyddiadur yn rhyngweithiol - hynny yw, mi allwch rhoi gwybodaeth i fewn iddo, neu chael gwybodaeth allan. Y cam cyntaf y byddwch yn cymryd wrth fentro ar y dudalen hon felly fydd dewis pa un rydych am ei wneud.... Chwilio ynteu Mewnbynnu (blychod chwilio ar y chwith mewn glas, blychod mewnbynnu ar y dde mewn coch).

(Ewch i’r gwaelod am ganllawiau cychwynnol).

CHWILIO: Chi biau’r dewis: mis neu gyfnod arbennig efallai, blwyddyn, gair (neu ddau air), neu ddiwrnod penodol (treiwch ddyddiad eich pen-blwydd). Cewch wneud cyfuniad o rhain.

MEWNBYNNU: Trwy fewnbynnu cewch ychwanegu at y gronfa a chreu adnodd mwy cynhwysfawr fyth i ymchwilwyr fel chi. Dim ond tri amod sydd ar eich cofnod: ei fod yn cynnwys rhyw fath o ddyddiad, lleoliad (bras neu fanwl), a bod y cofnod rhywfodd yn gysylltiedig â’r amgylchedd.

Rhydychen
Gerard Manley Hopkins the journal

May 3, 1866 cold. Morning raw and wet, afternoon fine. Walked then without Addis crossing Bablock Hythe..... on further side of the Whitney Road hills, just fleeced with grain or other green growth, by the dips and waves foreshortened here in there and so differenced in brightness and opacity the green on them with delicate effect. On left, brow of near hill glistening with very bright newly turned sods and a scarf of vivid green slanting away beyond the skyline, agst. which the clouds showed the slightest tinge of rose or purple. Copses in grey-red or grey-yellow – the tinges immediately forerunning the opening a full leaf. Meadows skirting Seven-bridge road voluptuous green. Some oaks around it in small leaf. Ashes not out, only tufted with their fringy blooms.  Hedges springing richly. Elms in small leaf with more or less opacity. White poplars most beautiful in small grey crisp spray-like leaf. Cowslips capriciously colouring meadows in creamy drift. Bluebells, purple orchis. Over the green water of the river passing the slums of the town and under its bridges swallows shooting, blue and purple above and showing their amber tinged breasts reflected in the water, their flight unsteady with wagging wings and leaning first to one side and then the other. Peewits flying. Towards sunset the sky partly swept, as often, with moist white cloud.... Sun seems to make a bright liquid hole in this, its texture had an upward northerly sweep adrift from the W marked softly in grey. Dog violets. Eastward after sunset range of clouds rising in bulky heads moulded softly and tufts of bunches of snow – so it looks – and membered somewhat elaborately, rose coloured. Notice of an imperfect fairy rings. Apple and other fruit trees blossomed beautifully....

We were out of Church by noon and as I walked home through the quiet green meadows in the glorious sunshine I gathered a handful of luscious cowslips...late last night..the wind had dropped and all was still, save for the occasional slow dripping of the trees after the last heavy shower. A gainst the clean bright sky every leaf stood out with marvellous distinctness, and as I approached the gate the moonlight streamed in, up the avenue, dark with foliage...the ground was still wet and shining with rain

Tuesday, 25 April. At 10 o`clock I started in an April shower to walk to Peterchurch. ...... I went home another way over the hill to Blakemere. A wild storm of hail swept down the valley but I took shelter under a hawthorn bush and the sun still went on shining. When the wild storm and white squall were over I went on up the steep lane between the dripping glancing glittering hedges, till across a dingle which separated it from the lane I saw an old man at work on the cottage garden..... There [in the rich warm Meadows of Blakemere] in a field adorned with the noble pear tree of majestic height and growth in full blossom I found cowslips and the first bluebells and the young ferns uncurling their crozier heads. And the sun shone and the Cuckoo called and the pear tree waved her blossoms and all the sweet flower scents went up in fragrant incense and praise to God, and I gathered cowslips and bluebells and was as happy as a child.... Outside the door [of Hannah Preece`s cottage] on the cottage wall hung the old dry withered Birch and wittan twigs soon to be replaced on May Eve by new boughs to keep the old witch out and counteract her spells during the coming year .

...through a meadow golden with cowslips ...Over the gate of the meadow there leaned a beautiful wild cherry tree with blossom, that scented the air near and far. ...expedition by train to Lappworth in search of wild flowers..gathered primroses Cowslips, Ox-slips, Cuckoo-flowers, Strawberry Anemones, Early purple Vetch, White Violets, Dog Violets, Wood Sorrel, Moschatel, Lady's Mantle, Blackthorn, Bullace, Corn Crowfoot and Common Lesser Sedge and Daisies...there was no trace of any blossoms of the Sweet Purple Violet; I found a number of the white ones so conclude they flower a little later than the purple. The wild Pear was just ready to break into blossom and the buds of Hawthorn were very large.

Cycled to Bushwood, - a still grey day, with beautifully dry roads. March is going out like a lamb...I found quantities of primroses and sweet violets,(both blue and white) on the banks of the fields and the roadside. I found the first dog-violet I have seen in blossom this year at the top of Dick's lane, the Cowslips are only in bud yet; but everywhere the celandine made the ditches bright , and the strawberry-leaved Cinquefoil spangled the banks...

March 28, 1927 Fernhurst   A lovely day; it was so warm in the sun, that we were able to sit and sew out of doors. I found the first Cowslips in bloom in our field, and many Celandines among the marshy parts. Nuthatches are very busy in the box nest in the porch one hears a constant sound of tapping within. We never see more than one bird st a time at the nest

Flowers are opening rather before their time, and there was a red Campion in bloom near Northwich on April 15th. On Saturday we visited and unspoilt Cheshire valley where primroses still grow in great profusion, and there we found several cowslips and many scores of bluebells fully open. Blackthorns, which were already in flower on March 26th, were a mass of blossom. A. W. Boyd

18 May, Monday The day started cloudy and even seemed to just threaten thunder. Set off 12.15 for Llynclys Hill via Alberbury .... Cowslips are a feature at the moment; the Heath Spotted-orchid are coming up, very big and lush, and pardalina, just showing the tip of a flowers-spike in some cases. On the open slopes there were Early purple Orchis and Green-winged (a few). Went round to Jacobs ladder. This place was rich as usual. The Daphne laureola had green berries. The Sorbus amglia was in bud, the bushes gleaming silver in the high wind and looking wonderful against the black Yews. Salad Burnet was coming out; found flowers which appeared all female, others all male, others mixed in varying proportions.

Yesterday was Pentecost: so this is the true "Whit Holiday." A glorious day after a shaky start. The grass on the Home Wood paths was wet from yesterday's rain. The bluebells are glorious in huge deep blue drifts, sometimes mingled with stitchwort. ... In the garden the Cowslips PRIMULA VERIS, are still in flower. A patch of woodruff: GALIUM ODORATUM is in full flower and the yellow Welsh Poppies : MECONOPSIS Cambrica are superb. The majestic Chestnut trees alongside the Paddock are now in flower those at the top catching up and beating to it the ones at the bottom who get less sun. Sycamore flowers are showing too, and young Oak leaves gleam amongst the pretty pendulous raceames [sic] of flowers.
