Y Tywyddiadur

Prif nodwedd y gronfa hon yw'r dyddiad, mis neu'r flwyddyn penodol sydd yn sail i'ch cofnod. Mae'r tywydd wrth gwrs yn rhywbeth sydd yn digwydd "rwan", pryd bynnag yw neu oedd "rwan" i'r cofnodwr gwreiddiol; y bore yma efallai, diwrnod arbennig yn eich plentyndod, neu sylw mewn dyddiadur dwy ganrif yn ôl yn sir Feirionnydd.... efallai. Neu efallai bod cysylltiad y sylw a'r tywydd yn ymddangosiadol wan iawn: tylluan wen yn hela am dri o'r gloch y prynhawn ar ddyddiad arbennig o Chwefror; clywed y gog yn canu ddiwedd mis Mawrth; teilo cae at datws ddechrau’r gwanwyn. Tywydd....? efallai! Ffenoleg...? yn bendant.

Mae'r Tywyddiadur yn rhyngweithiol - hynny yw, mi allwch rhoi gwybodaeth i fewn iddo, neu chael gwybodaeth allan. Y cam cyntaf y byddwch yn cymryd wrth fentro ar y dudalen hon felly fydd dewis pa un rydych am ei wneud.... Chwilio ynteu Mewnbynnu (blychod chwilio ar y chwith mewn glas, blychod mewnbynnu ar y dde mewn coch).

(Ewch i’r gwaelod am ganllawiau cychwynnol).

CHWILIO: Chi biau’r dewis: mis neu gyfnod arbennig efallai, blwyddyn, gair (neu ddau air), neu ddiwrnod penodol (treiwch ddyddiad eich pen-blwydd). Cewch wneud cyfuniad o rhain.

MEWNBYNNU: Trwy fewnbynnu cewch ychwanegu at y gronfa a chreu adnodd mwy cynhwysfawr fyth i ymchwilwyr fel chi. Dim ond tri amod sydd ar eich cofnod: ei fod yn cynnwys rhyw fath o ddyddiad, lleoliad (bras neu fanwl), a bod y cofnod rhywfodd yn gysylltiedig â’r amgylchedd.

… I went down to the Crooked Pool , knowing of a big salmon there and after ineffectual attempts to hook him I returned to the House for a triangle (?); and came back with Joe, and was soon in him, and he gave me an hours good sport. The fish was a fine fresh new salmon of 11 ½ lb. Afterwards I walked up to Llyn Cynwych [Cynwch] for Perch fishing, and had some good sport, catching most with the minnow. I came home at 6.30 to dress for dinner, as mother, the Squire and I drove up to Caerynwch in the phaeton and dined there at 7.30. Salmon 1 (Wnion) 11 ½ lbs. Perch Llyn Cynwch) 24.

A fine and cloudy day with every appearance of a change in the weather. I met Millais at Dolgelley station, and we started by the 7.10 train to fish Crogennau, breakfasting at Arthog on our way up. We began fishing soon after nine o’clock, and I had the best sport in the boat, and during the morning the fish rose well; but very few were rising to the ‘natural’. We picked a few up in the little Lake, but the best sport I had in the boat. We returned home by the 5.45 train, which for a wonder was in very good time. Trout (Llyn Crogennau) M.E. 33, Millais 6 = 39

I was up at 8 o’clock, and went out before breakfast to kill rabbits, but only killed a couple. I went into Dolgelley [sic] with the coach, as I played today in a match between the Dolgelley C. [Cricket] Club and the Visitors: the latter being composed of two reading parties: and having the valuable assistance of Pearson: in the Varsity Eleven of this year. The match ended in a hollow victory for the Visitors by 10 wickets. I returned home by the coach: and went to meet the Minor at Bontnewydd by the six o’clock train: as he had come from Dublin on leave. When we got home, I went to the Big Pool to bathe. A fine and hot day.

It was fine and hot. Wynne, Lister and I determined to make an expedition to the Cader lakes, but really it was a bad day for fishing, the sun being very bright. The Minor and I walked up to Llyn Arran: while Wynne and Lister fished the stream. It was much too bright to expect to catch fish; and in the afternoon I walked on to Llyn-y-Cader, but could not do much better there. We then joined soon after 4 o’clock, and had a rough walk down, and caught the coach on the road home. The Squire arrived today from Leamington; and Mr and Miss Wilkin came to stay here. The Minor & Wynne went to Barmouth on the Coach today. We had a good bath at the Big Pool before breakfast, and about 11.30 Lister and I walked on to Llyn Cynwych [Cynwch] to fish for Perch, but they bit very badly all the time we were up there, and we left the Lake soon after 5 o’clock, as I wanted to see Lucas and Gosse [?] . two Oxford men: who called here after six o’clock to consult us about their case tomorrow. A close day, but much cooler towards evening. I had a bathe this morning before breakfast: and at 10.30 drove into Petty Sessions with the Squire, the important case brought by the Cambrian Railway Comp. against 5 Oxford men, for damaging a signal Post, coming on. The defendants were fined 1£ each: with 4£ proportionately divided among the three, for damages. There was some other business … went up to Drws-y-Nant by the 2 o’clock train, and had a walk over the moor. I saw three coveys, but two of the lots were very young birds. ... Courtney, an army man, arrived today, and the Squire went away this evening for the Goodwood week. The Minor killed this morning a salmon 6 ¼ lb in the crooked Pool; being the second large fish taken out of that Pool this year.

Courtney, Lloyd and I started over to Talyllyn about 8 o’clock, walked there in two hours. It was a bright day – in fact, much too bright for fishing – consequently we had not much sport. … I had to leave the Lake at 4 o’clock. and the Minor and Courtney stayed later. A fine and bright day. … started by the 8.50 train to Arthog. And we went up to Crogennau, but it was dreadfully bright for fishing. Wynne caught most of the fish in Crogennau – but in the afternoon I walked up to Llyn Curig [?] and managed to catch a few small trout, but they were rising freely to the natural. I left the Lake about 4 o’clock, and joined the others at Crogennau, and we caught the train back. We went out shooting rabbits this evening – and killed 6 couple. …. after breakfast rain came down so heavily we gave up all ideas of cricket … match was postponed … We got back to Dolserau in time for lunch and Nelly and I afterwards went down to the river, but it was too low to catch fish. The Minor joined me at the meeting of the waters: and soon after the rain came on in earnest. The Minor raised a sewin in the Big Pool. Trout (Wnion) 40

The Minor and I were up at 4 o’clock. and went out to fish the Wnion which was in good order for fly, but except a fish which to Minor hooked in Dolgun pool we saw nothing. We were in for breakfast at 7.30: and then made a start for the Mawddach. and we began fishing at Gethige?lyn [Gelligemlyn]. I killed two small sewin in the same pool: and the Minor killed three; one being a nice fish, but the sun came out much too bright for fishing. After lunch we separated: the Minor going up the Eden: while I went up the Mawddach: but we did no good: although it clouded over after four o’clock. We got home about 8 o’clock. Sea trout (Mawddach)5 (1) 2lbs. Wynne killed 80 trout on Wnion – and lost a good fish.

It was raining heavily this morning, so at 8 o’clock the Minor and I started over in the phaeton to Tyn-y-groes: and we drove to the Eden: and fished up that river in the morning, but although the water came down in good order, we did not get a fish: so after lunch we went up the Mawddach. The water came down in splendid order for fly, but we did no good till we came up near the ‘Falls’ when the Minor rose 3 good fish: and stuck in a salmon: which gave 20 minutes good play, and I landed. Courtney joined us soon after one o’clock, and saw the fun. We went right up to the Falls – and fished down below the Meeting of the Waters. till 8 o’clock we rose a good many fish: and I lost a good sewin. The Minor killed two. We did not get home till nearly 10 o’clock. Salmon 1 = 11 ½ lbs Mawddach Fly. Pat [?] H. Thunder. Sea trout. 2. (1) 4 ¼ lbs. Mawddach Wnion (W.E killed one. Finis. ..VOL IV .

Courtney , Wynne and I went over to Tyn-y-Groes in a car. Found the river in grand order, consequently we went to the upper water to fish with fly. I began at the Eden Bridge Pool, and we fished right up to the Falls, but hardly moved a fish, but at the Rock Pool on our way down I hooked a good fish, and Wynne lost another. It was a poor day considering the state of the water but the fish took very shlyly [shyly].We were home in good time for dinner. Sea trout (Mawddach) 1.

We woke up early this morning to find the Wnion in one of the highest floods known for years. The river was over the bridge, and through the plantation. Wynne and I went before breakfast and tried with worm, but really there was no place to fish, and Wynne alone caught a small sewin. After breakfast at 8.30 we started over to the Mawddach ... and went up to Gethigemlyn , and worm fished. I caught three good fish in this pool, and one other with worm; and in the afternoon we went off to the Eden, and found it just in order for fly The sewin, however, rose very badly, and Wynne caught a small one. The latter left me at the junction and I crossed at the wooden bridge, and tried some of the best pools the other side - on the Mawddach. I hooked one fish. I did not get to Tyn-y-groes till 9 o`clock and we stayed the night at the hotel. We were very tired after a long days fishing. Grilse 1. (Mawddach) 2lb. Sea trout (Mawddach ) 3 (1) 2 1/2lb. Wynne and I with Hugh Jones, went out about 8.30. The river was very clear, and as the sun came out bright. I gave up fishing for sewin , and went up the Eden with my trout rod and small flies. The first thing I did was to hook a sewin, but the fish broke my very light tackle in some sticks. I was equally unfortunate with two other sewin, one being a very good fish, but I managed to catch a small sewin, and 51 trout, and I left off fishing at the bridge. Wynne stuck to the Mawddach and caught one sewin ... Sea trout (Mawddach) 1, Sea trout (Eden) 1. Trout 51.

Courtney drove in to Dolgelley with me about 11 o`clock, as I had backed myself to walk from Dolgelley to Barmouth in an hour and a half...Griffith started us from the bridge at 8 minutes to 12, and I got to Barmouth toll gate at 1.30, and the Corsygedol [?] Arms at 1.33, so that I lost my bet by 8 minutes.
