A wet and miserable day: it being very cold… I had sent Bob with my rods up to Llyn Cynwrch, so I hurried up there, and sent him down to the river… I walked up the river and met Bob at the Mill Dam. Went up to Llyn Cynwrch. The sun was bright, but the wind rather cold. I rose five: but did not catch one. I was most unlucky, as I ought to have caught two. The fish were rising a little to the natural.

Started out for a walk up Moel [Robarll?] I went up by Cors y Garnedd, and right along the range, and reached the top… I descended to Drws-y-nant, across the Hengwrt moor, and went down to the [turn?] and so home by road.

The wind was still very cold, and the sun bright… and then went up to Llyn Cynwrch, but it was no good fishing; so I walked doen to the Llanfachreth Lake, and amused myself by fishing down the stream with fly, but the wind was much against me: however I caught one very good trout 6oz: in a small hole: but the course owning to the trees I could not fish most of the best places. I caught 14: and two in the Wnion… Trout (Llanfachreth Stream) 16 (1) 16oz.

At 12:10 started for a long walk to the lakes [?],[ Howel?], Penfeddau, boddlyn and [tiddlyn?]. I went by Tyn-Y-Groes and up the [Camlyn?] and [waked?]Llyn [?] at 10 min to 3@ I went up to Howel and then to Penfeddau, where somebody was evidently fishing, as I found rod case, basket, lunch, sketch book etc and all strewn about the ground. I then cut across the ridge of mountain and came down between Boddlyn and [Tidlyn?] and then had a splendid walk down to Clogau Gold Mine, and joined the Barmouth road at the Halfway House, and so home by road: getting in at 7:20 having been at least 25 miles.

As Grace, Bob and the Squire were coming down, I went to Llanuwchllyn by the 8:40 train, and walked up to fish Llyn [Llymwy?] The wind was in the right direction, East, and there was a capital breeze on the lake, but as there was hardly a fly on the water, the fish were not on the rise; but what fish did take, rose well. By lunch time, I had six, and then unfortunately two men from Bala came up to fish, which rather interfered with my sport although I only saw them catch one. I rose several good fish in the afternoon, and lost a good fish hooked by the tail: he broke me. But I had 3 of half a pound or more, and I found the Red Spinner do great execution… Bob Willis and I, when we got home, had a walk after rabbits, but only slew one. Trout (Llyn [Llymwy?]) 13

There was a white frost this morning, but it turned out a glorious day, the sun being hot and high… walked up Llyn Cynwych (sic. Cynwrch) and immediately caught one: but although a few fish were rising they would not look at my flies: although there was a good breeze… and then went up the torrent but I did not persevere.

I bathed at the Big Pool this morning before breakfast. I did not go to Church this morning, but had a walk to the top of Moel Offrwm, and then down Llyn Cynwych. Lorie Richards came to lunch, and I walked with her back to Caerynwch. I then came down and played lawn tennis… It was a very fine and dry, but wind rather cold.

A fine day, but there was a thunderstorm not far off, and we had a little rain… the coach being driven to Barmouth by the squire, with Lorie Richards horses- a very good team indeed. At 1:20 I walked to Barmouth, reaching the toll gate at 3:30, and just as the Drag was starting on its homeward journey, and a very enjoyable journey we had back. Grace and I walked down Dolgellu when we got home to [nich?] lilac, cherry blossom.

I went up to Llyn Cynwych, and as it was warm, and calm, a great many fish were rising to the natural; but heavy thundershowers were hanging about, which came on in squalls: and greatly spoilt my chance of sport. Yet I killed one, and lost two. About 2:30 I went to the river and fished up above Bontnewydd, and was only at it a couple of hours. A fine and mild day: wind S.E… I walked over to Talyllyn to stay there the night: I got there about 3 o’clock and managed to get a boat, although the hotel was very full indeed. The trout were rising to the olive dew which came on: but the breeze was light and variable. I caught seven nicer fish, and lost several.
