It was pouring wet during the morning and the river was in high flood. I had the phaeton and drove up to [?] intending to fish the Drws-Y-Nant stream. I walked up above the wook and found the stream very full, too full for fishing: but I caught some very nice trout… Trout (Drws-y-Nant Stream) 22

I went up to Wern goch to see our small lot of 60 pheasants, and very healthy they looked. A nice shower of rain had fallen this morning, so at 10:30 I finished up in Wnion to the [Helwgog?] pools, but the trout took badly… I started up to Llyn Cynwch, intending to fish for [Perch?] but they would not bite at all. I had a very hot walk; the sun being very powerful… I reached Llyn [Abbi?]… the breeze was fairly strong , but the fish seemed dreadfully shy, and an otter board soon explained the reason why… when I had one small one and rose two good fish. I then went to Llyn prefeddau, which was positively alive with trout rising, but there was no [breeze?] I killed 12: and as it became still, I returned to Abbi, to find the breeze [?] away, but I killed one trout… Trout Llyn Abbi 2, Llyn perfeddau 12, Canllyn 9, Llyn Howel 24.

I started from Tyn-y-Groes to fish above the falls at 8:30. The day was hot and bright, and the river very low. I fished up stream with maggot, and had a hard days work with poor results: but most of the fish I caught were a good size. I found the wind against me above the woods, otherwise I might have done better. I fished up to the bridge and walked home by Cwrw-Llyn-Glyn… Trout (Mawddach) 19

Train to Llanuwchllyn and then walked to Llyn Llymwy. The wind was strong from the S ad rain which had been there [?] came on, and at times fell heavily. Few fish were rising in the lake and they seemed shy. I only caught 4 in the lake, and at 2:30 went to fish the [Twrch?], but my sport was poor… It was very cloudy with showers of rain. I went up to the big pool this morning, and had a capital bath… I had bought my rod, lunch etc, down with me, and started to fish up the [Avan?] stream with maggot and fly. At first I did not do well, but after I got more out of the wood, I soon began to pull the trout out pretty sharply: and fishing up [?] a mile up Llyn [Avan?] I had 54 trout. I then walked up to Llyn [Avan?], and caught 8 trout there, and after a very enjoyable afternoons sport I walked home… Trout [Avan?] Stream 54 Llyn [Avan?] 8= 62

Ned and I walked up to Cwrw Strathllyn, and fished there during the afternoon. The weather was very unfavourable for Lake fishing, a dense mist is being down on the hills with frequent showers.

A pouring wet day. I went up by the coach at 11:30 to the bridge over the Glaslyn, intending to fish down. A strong breeze was blowing, and I could hardly expect sport. But I hooked a fine sewin in one of the lower pools, and lost it simply by carelessness as I had not my landing net up, and the fish hook away out of my hands.

Rode down to the Glaslyn across the traeth, and he left me to fish… I caught one nice trout…Went up to pen-y-gwrydd and from there essayed to start to Llyn [Dwinyadd?] and no little trouble we had getting our provision there: but we reached the Lake about 6 o’clock. The wind was blowing in a bad direction, and the evening turned very cold. I only caught two trout, one by night fishing.

I was out fishing by 4 o’clock and caught there trout before breakfast… During the morning the fish were rising to some small flies, but I could do nothing with them… I determined to stay up another night, so walked to Penygwrydd brought up clean clothes and provisions and reached the Lake again by 4. It was a fine fresh day, and I expected good sport this evening: but the weather suddenly changed: a gale got up and the mist came almost on to the Lake. I caught one trout only night fishing on a large service fly, trailed behind the boat.

I had a sleepless night, and the morning broke with a dense mist in the hills, and the wind very squally. I went out fishing about 4 o’clock, and killed two trout, making my total 16. About 9 o’clock a dense [?] mist came on the Lake, and I determined to attempt to find my way down to Penygwrydd. I had great difficulty, and joined the road about a mile down the hill towards capel Curig. I had a wash and got into day things, intending to go back to Ty Nanney, but Llyn Gwynant looked so tempting. I was dropped at Byw Gwynany, Mr Wyatts House, and having a letter from Ned, I was fortunate enough to get his boat. A strong breeze was blowing, but fishing steadily till I was beaten off the lake by pouring rain, I had good sport: but the trout did not use well after the first hours fishing. I walked the 4 miles to Beddgelert in pouring rain, and reached the Goat inn, very wet and tired… Trout (Llyn [Dwyniadd?]) 2 Total 16, Trout (Llyn Gwynany) fishing from one till 4:30 12.

Got a lift part of the way to Llyn Gwrynant, a gentleman also going there to fish attended by Evan Williams the local fisherman. It was a grand day for Lake fishing, and I had splendid sport. I caught the [gilse?] opposite Wyatts boat house that is to stay. I hooked him there, but I did not land him for an hour afterwards: the other boat coming to my help and taking me to shore. Trout rose well towards evening, and I was sorry to give up… Drove back to Beddgelert, and from there walked to Ty nanney seven miles… Trout (Llyn Gwynant) 38

A fine day… I started down to Portmadoc to see Osmond and Randall Casson and we had very nice bath from some rocks in the tideway. I went this afternoon across the Traeth to the river with Osmond. River was in good order and a splendid breeze blowing.

Went down to Osmond: to get some flies and then on the river below the bridge of the Cambrian… I had no sport until I hooked a very large fish in what was a likely Salmon pool: and played him till Osmond and Ned Greaves came to my rescue, and the later skilfully gaffed the fish: when what was one [disgust] to find that it was an ugly Bass of 8lb: which had almost swallowed my small trout fly: a mere grouse tackle, orange body…and continued fishing during the afternoon, but the trout would not rise at all, although there was a nice breeze, and the tide favourable. I started from Portmadoc by the 7:50 train, intending to go home for starter sessions: but it looked such a grand fishing day, I could not resist stopping at Llanbedr; and I went to the Victoria Inn: and started for [Glowlyn?] at 8:15. I could not have had a better day for fishing the lake as there was a capital breeze… I was however singularly unfortunate as I lost a very great number of fish, and some very large ones. I fished till 7 o’clock and after an hour and a halfs walk during which a very heavy shower came on reached Llanbedr. Trout Glowlyn 19.

I started around the same time as yesterday to Glowlyn: and began fishing at [tew?]: it was not half such a good fishing day: as the breeze was light and the sun was very powerful at times. During the afternoon I climbed up little Llyn Ddu, but only caught one trout there. I bathed at the big pool this morning…afterwards rode down to Dolgelly to attend the assizes… I rode back to Dolgelly, and then walked over by Nannau to the Mawddach, which I found in capital order owing to the heavy showers up that part of the country. I commenced at Gethigemlyn (sic. Gelligemlyn) but only rose one sewin which I touched in the pool above… I went right up to the wood before the falls: but the sun was too bright to expect any sport, and I had to give up at the best time.

Gelligemlyn) but did little fishing, and as the sun came out very high, I gave up walked home by llyn Cynwych.
