Y Tywyddiadur

Prif nodwedd y gronfa hon yw'r dyddiad, mis neu'r flwyddyn penodol sydd yn sail i'ch cofnod. Mae'r tywydd wrth gwrs yn rhywbeth sydd yn digwydd "rwan", pryd bynnag yw neu oedd "rwan" i'r cofnodwr gwreiddiol; y bore yma efallai, diwrnod arbennig yn eich plentyndod, neu sylw mewn dyddiadur dwy ganrif yn ôl yn sir Feirionnydd.... efallai. Neu efallai bod cysylltiad y sylw a'r tywydd yn ymddangosiadol wan iawn: tylluan wen yn hela am dri o'r gloch y prynhawn ar ddyddiad arbennig o Chwefror; clywed y gog yn canu ddiwedd mis Mawrth; teilo cae at datws ddechrau’r gwanwyn. Tywydd....? efallai! Ffenoleg...? yn bendant.

Mae'r Tywyddiadur yn rhyngweithiol - hynny yw, mi allwch rhoi gwybodaeth i fewn iddo, neu chael gwybodaeth allan. Y cam cyntaf y byddwch yn cymryd wrth fentro ar y dudalen hon felly fydd dewis pa un rydych am ei wneud.... Chwilio ynteu Mewnbynnu (blychod chwilio ar y chwith mewn glas, blychod mewnbynnu ar y dde mewn coch).

(Ewch i’r gwaelod am ganllawiau cychwynnol).

CHWILIO: Chi biau’r dewis: mis neu gyfnod arbennig efallai, blwyddyn, gair (neu ddau air), neu ddiwrnod penodol (treiwch ddyddiad eich pen-blwydd). Cewch wneud cyfuniad o rhain.

MEWNBYNNU: Trwy fewnbynnu cewch ychwanegu at y gronfa a chreu adnodd mwy cynhwysfawr fyth i ymchwilwyr fel chi. Dim ond tri amod sydd ar eich cofnod: ei fod yn cynnwys rhyw fath o ddyddiad, lleoliad (bras neu fanwl), a bod y cofnod rhywfodd yn gysylltiedig â’r amgylchedd.

A fine day at last. I tried the wnion this morning before breakfast but did not rise any fish… Drove up to Drws y Nant intending to shoot on our side… we had poor sport until we went on the upper flat, where as usual we found birds. Powder not very straight and the birds rather wild. Grouse (Hengwrt, Drws y Nant) 11 Guns 3 WM Smith, C.M.E CH.Owen Sniper 1

Wynne and I determined to start to the Mawddach early, it being our last day together. Found the river in first rate order, but high. We went up to the Eden, and both rose a fish, mine being a large oneand in the [?] pool. We crossed over to the Mawddach… fished up to the falls. I rose two fish in the Minors Pool, touching one slightly. Wynne caught a small grisle in the Mine pool. W.E Grisle 1 (Mawddach) 5lbs Durham R C.M.E Blank.

A dull and cold day, with rain threatening. Started up to bwlch y groes… but could not expect to do much with grouse on such a day. As soon as we got on the moor we found the old tenant shouting away at his sheep, which did not improve matters. We had a long walk, and did not get any easy chances.

I went with John Davies up to Tyddyn to look for partridges, but they were not on the ground, although they had been there, during the morning. I walked across to Coed and Caerynwch but only saw a few pheasants and a hare. The only thing I shot was a Heron.

A very fine day, the sun being hot and bright… I went up to Blaenau and had an unlucky day. No doubt the wet weather we had in July killed a great number of partridges, as on this beat alone two coveys were drowned. I had a long walk and only killed a hare. Saw no partridges at all… Blaenau Hare 1.

Wednesday April 17th I journeyed down to Dolserau today by the 10 o`clock train, and had a good journey. Rhys Price met me at Bontnewydd the cart for my luggage, there being no horse to drive, so I walked from the station. The train was very late consequently I did not sit down to dinner till 8 o`clock Thursday April 18th A glorious day. The sun being hot and bright. I had breakfast at 8, and walked up to him, but when I reached the lake there was not an atom with breeze, however, it soon, but few fish were rising, flies being scarse [sic] on the water, no doubt owing to the mornings frost. However I picked up 8 nice trout, and then about 2 o`clock went down to the Afon Wen stream, but as it was so bright and clear I could do little in it. Returned to Llyn Cynwych [sic ], but as there was not a fish moving, I went home, having enjoyed my day`s sport. Trout (Llyn Cynwych) 8 Afon Wen stream 15 = 23

Friday April 19th Good Friday. John Davies and I started at 8 o`clock in a car to the Halfway House, from whence we walked up to the Corsygedol Lakes, and as the day was mild and spring like, I expected sport. We commenced fishing at Irddlyn [sic. Irddyn neu Erddyn] but although there was a nice breeze, we could do next to nothing. John Davies caught two, and I one trout, but they were small. We then walked up to Boddlyn [sic. Bodlyn], but as I was anxious to get to Dillyn [sic. Dulyn?], where I have never been before, we went on. The breeze with very light on this Lake, and although some nice trout were rising, none would take, so I returned to Boddlyn, and John Davies fished the stream down, so that we made our basket up to 37. Started homewards about six, and drove home from the Halfway House. Trout Llyn Irddlyn 3 Llyn Bodlyn and stream 34 Llyn Dillyn 0

Saturday April 20th a regular April day. Wind light from SE with showers. There was a little [fresh] in the river, so I started to fish the Helygog stream, and tried a long way up it with worm, but only got one, so I fished the Wnion and eventually went up to the Drws-y-nant stream, and fishing right up into the moor, I had very good sport with fly, and some of the trout were a good size. I walked home across the hill, and my fish were no light load. Trout Wnion and Drws-y-nant stream 70

Monday April 22nd Wind south east and rather cold. Went by the 8.40 train with John Davies to Llanuwchllyn, whence we walked up to Llyn Llymry [sic.]. Expected a good days sport, as the wind was blowing very favorably for the Lake, but one did not realise how cold it was until one was up at the lake. Next to no flies on the water, consequently I hardly saw a fish rise. Several other Piscators were up at the lake, but none did any good. I went down to the Twrch later in the afternoon: I caught several small trout, but did not [count]. The train was very late home owing to the Dolgelley Fair. Trout (Llyn Llymry) 6 Twrch 10

Tuesday April 23rd Wind more Easterly, and odd to say, we had several very heavy showers. I did not expect to do much on such a day, but was agreeably surprised, as at Llyn Cynwych [sic. Cynwch] I caught 9 trout, four being good fish: the largest being a smice [?] over 1/2lb. I found the Yellow Dun* very serviceable. In the afternoon I walked to Bontnewydd, and fished homewards, but the trout rose wretchedly in the river. Trout ( Llyn Cynwych) 9 Wnion 18 *Baëtis vernus (Harris, AAE 1952)

Wednesday April 24th I went over to Talyllyn with the intention of staying there, and I sent John Davies on with my luggage in the cart, and I walked. A most unfavourable day for fishing, a strong North easterly wind blowing with high bright sun. It was too windy for the boat, so I fished from the shore, with but poor results, as hardly a fish was moving. I was unable to get a room at Tyn y gornel, so, nothing loath, I turned homewards about 5 o`clock: John Davies following with the cart. Trout (Talyllyn) 3

Thursday April 25th A bright sunny day, wind Easterly. I went up to Llyn Cynwch [sic.. cywir], but could not do much, no fish rising, so about 2 o`clock I went down to the Wnion fished down to the junction, and then went up the Clwyedoc [sic Clywedog], where I managed to pull a few trout out. Friday April 26th Bright and sunny but cold wind. Went off by myself to Llyn Llymry, taking the 8.40 train to Llanuwchllyn, and walking up. On my arrival I found a gentleman fishing, and a poaching looking sort of the chap. I fished till 3 o`clock, and caught 4, but they were wretchedly small, and I only met one good trout, which I lost. At 3 my fishing was brought to an abrupt conclusion, by the river watcher (Sir W. Wynne) and keeper coming up and demanding a ticket but as I did not know that the Lake was preserved, I could not produce one: but the watcher had come up after the old Poacher, who gave them the slip, and how on earth they did not catch him I cannot make out, as he went down to fish the Twrch. I went home by 6 o`clock train. Trout (Llyn Llymry) 4

Saturday April 27th A beautiful day, and in the middle of the day much warmer, as the wind went to the S. I went up to Llyn Cynwch [sic.] early, and expected to do better than I did. I saw a good fish rising as soon as I reached the Lake, and throwing over him he took the Blue Dun, but unfortunately got off: I caught 3, and at 2.30 left the Lake, and walked to Bont Newydd and fished up. Some nice trout were rising, but they came shyly to the fly in the bright sun, but took better when it was down. I fished till 6.45, and then walked home. Had the wind blown more up stream I should have done better, but at times I found it very hard to get my line on the water. Trout (Llyn Cynwych [sic.]) 3 Wnion 35

Monday April 29th Wind SE squally, with heavy showers of rain. I went up by the 8.50 train to Arthog, and went to Tyn y Coed to ask Mr Davies` permission to use his boat, which I got. Commenced fishing at 10.15, and fished till 5: wind was very squally, which made the management of the boat very difficult: and the wind was rather worse in the afternoon when the rain came on. Few fish rising to the "Natural", but I found the March Brown very killing. I killed a few trout from the shore of the small Lake. Returned by the 5.55 train. Trout (Llyn Crogennan [sic]) 50

Tuesday April 30th John Davies and I went off to Dolgelley station this morning, intending to catch the train to Arthog, but such heavy rain came on, I altered my plans, and went to Tyn y groes in a car, and we walked above the Falls. As the rain did not last long, the river was never flooded, but there was enough fresh water to put it in order for up-stream fishing with fly. John Davis and I fished alternately up to the stone bridge, and made a splendid basket; our respective bags were 38 and 36. We walked home by [Cwm Blyn glyn?], and reached home at 8; the fish being no light load. Trout (Mawddach) 74.

Friday May 3rd My last day at Talyllyn, so I was out soon after 9 o`clock. It was a very good morning for fishing, but a very bad afternoon as the sun became bright, and the wind strong & westerly. Trout were rising to the olive dun ["olive coloured preimaginal Baëtis" AAE] in the morning, but did not take well, in fact my sport at the head of the lake (which used to be so good) was very poor during all three days. I only caught 2 trout during the afternoon, but one was 3/4lb. which I caught fishing off the shore. I sent John Davies home with my luggage soon after 4 : and was not long following soon after, as no fish were rising. Trout (Talyllyn) 11 (1) 3/4lb.
