Y Tywyddiadur

Prif nodwedd y gronfa hon yw'r dyddiad, mis neu'r flwyddyn penodol sydd yn sail i'ch cofnod. Mae'r tywydd wrth gwrs yn rhywbeth sydd yn digwydd "rwan", pryd bynnag yw neu oedd "rwan" i'r cofnodwr gwreiddiol; y bore yma efallai, diwrnod arbennig yn eich plentyndod, neu sylw mewn dyddiadur dwy ganrif yn ôl yn sir Feirionnydd.... efallai. Neu efallai bod cysylltiad y sylw a'r tywydd yn ymddangosiadol wan iawn: tylluan wen yn hela am dri o'r gloch y prynhawn ar ddyddiad arbennig o Chwefror; clywed y gog yn canu ddiwedd mis Mawrth; teilo cae at datws ddechrau’r gwanwyn. Tywydd....? efallai! Ffenoleg...? yn bendant.

Mae'r Tywyddiadur yn rhyngweithiol - hynny yw, mi allwch rhoi gwybodaeth i fewn iddo, neu chael gwybodaeth allan. Y cam cyntaf y byddwch yn cymryd wrth fentro ar y dudalen hon felly fydd dewis pa un rydych am ei wneud.... Chwilio ynteu Mewnbynnu (blychod chwilio ar y chwith mewn glas, blychod mewnbynnu ar y dde mewn coch).

(Ewch i’r gwaelod am ganllawiau cychwynnol).

CHWILIO: Chi biau’r dewis: mis neu gyfnod arbennig efallai, blwyddyn, gair (neu ddau air), neu ddiwrnod penodol (treiwch ddyddiad eich pen-blwydd). Cewch wneud cyfuniad o rhain.

MEWNBYNNU: Trwy fewnbynnu cewch ychwanegu at y gronfa a chreu adnodd mwy cynhwysfawr fyth i ymchwilwyr fel chi. Dim ond tri amod sydd ar eich cofnod: ei fod yn cynnwys rhyw fath o ddyddiad, lleoliad (bras neu fanwl), a bod y cofnod rhywfodd yn gysylltiedig â’r amgylchedd.

Wednesday January 29 I journeyed to Pale by the 8.40 train: a very cold morning, and weather was cold and hard. Mr Robertson and I went down the river after duck, and tried all the way to Llandrillo, but saw very few indeed, but we killed three. George Dicken met us at Llandrillo, as he tried the river up from Cynwyd, but did nothing. After lunch we separated after partridges, Mr R and T going together and George Dickens going alone in another direction. We each killed two brace. [guns] 3 Llandrillo and River Wild ducks 3 Partridges 8 Rabbit 1

Friday 27th June 1879   Having slept at Corwen, overnight, I started by early train at 7 reaching Dolserau at 8.15. Heavy rain during the night, and weather very stormy and unsettled. After breakfast drove over to Mawddach, and commenced fishing at Gethi gemlyn [sic Gelli gemlyn] . Fished the best pools up to Tyn y groes without seeing a Sewin; meeting Col. Romer who said a great many salmon had run up. I walked up to Meeting of waters and tried the upper pools. Did not stir a fish, and walked home across the hill in pouring rain   Blank [= dim pysgod]

Tuesday January 28th A fine and frosty day, sky very clear,. I went down to Petty Sessions, and as there were seventeen cases on, it was not till 4 that I got away. On getting home, I started for a good walk up to Llyn Cynwych [sic] round the Precipice walk, and just got down in time to go to Bontnewydd station to meet Mother.....

Thursday January 30th A very cold day for covert shooting. Party of six guns shot Bannos [Branas?] coverts before lunch, and crossing the river shot the Crogen coverts afterwards. Shooting was not straight all round, and the bag ought to have been bigger. A long, hard days walk, with following results. Guns Brannos & Crogen coverts Pheasants 29 (all cocks except 2) Hares 8 Rabbits Partridge 1

Friday January 31st A terribly cold East wind blowing. After seeing mother off to Town, Mr R and I going down to Llandrillo by the same train, tried the river for duck, and killed three, and by an unlucky chance at two which we spied, we lost a grand chance at a big flock, which rose from the river at the report of the gun. We returned to Llandrillo through the fields after partridges but as Griffith the Keeper was shooting at no great distance birds were very wild. We did not lunch till 3.30, and returned up the river to Palé but it was quite dark before we reached home. Guns 3 .... Wild ducks 3 Hares 1 Partridges 6 Snipe 1

Wednesday February 5th Pouring wet day. As Griffith owen [sic. o fach] had announced a meet of the Eifionnydd harriers at Ymylch gate [sic. Ymwlch?], some four miles from Tremadoc [sic.] after breakfast despite the rain, I went to have a run on foot with them; called at Ymylch, and found that Griffith owen had abandoned all idea of going out, so I walked home in time for lunch. After which, Ned, Wynne, Russell and I drove over to Aberglaslyn to see the Greaves new house, which is being built period, a most beautiful situation.....

Saturday April 5th    Wind strong from West. I went up to Llyn Cynwych [sic.] this morning, and tried the lake all morning, but only rose one  trout, and saw none rise to the Natural, so went down to the river, met John Davies with my lunch, and then fished right up as far as Bont Rhayader [sic. ], but with poor results, the trout rising badly. The river rose a few inches in the evening Trout (Wnion) 29

Sunday April 6th   A wet morning, wind Southerly but cold. Monday April 7th   Wind SE, very showery. John Davies and I drove over to Tyn y groes, walked to the Falls, and commenced fishing just above. Fished upstream steadily, but trout rose very badly, no fly being on the water, which was very cold. Fished right up to the Bont, and eventually I tried with worm, when I left the woods: the fish not rising at all to the fly. Did not get home till 7.30 walking across the mountains. Tuesday April 8th I went over this morning to stay at Talyllyn, the day apparently being favorable but there was a very cold wind blowing from SE which spoilt my day. Wednesday April 9th It was a nice mild morning, but no breeze sprang up till 10 o`clock, but suddenly the wind round to the east, and remained there all day and consequently the weather became very cold. I fished hard all day till 5 o`clock, and picked up ten trout, but none of any size. I found the dark red spinner a very useful fly, catching all my fish. Except in the morning during the calm I saw no fish rising, and naturally enough, as there were no flies for them to rise at, being very cold. After giving up fishing I took a long walk to the top of the hill opposite Tyn y cornel and came in feeling all the better having found fishing very cold work. Trout (Talyllyn) 10

Thursday April 10th A terribly cold wind from the NE blew today, and was very squally. I tried fishing from the shore for an hour or so in the morning, it being impossible to get a boat on the lake. As Wynne was arriving at home this morning from Walsall, and was coming over to join me, I thought I would give up, walk homewards; and stop him coming, but I had only got a little past Minffordd Tun when I met him, so we determined to return, and make the most of a bad day. We towed the boat up to the top of the Lake, and attempted to fish the top of the Lake, but although Wynne caught one trout, we found the boat quite unmanageable. so we fished on from the shore: wading being terribly cold work. Wynne caught the 8 trout killed, but which were all very small. We walked home from the bottom of the Pass. Trout (Talyllyn) 8

Friday April 11th Good Friday. It froze hard last night, and a worst day for fishing could not be imagined, a cold N. Easterly wind blowing with bright sunshine during the morning, and an easterly haze in the afternoon. We determined however to walk over to the Mawddach, and fish down; so we started, and were in hopes of doing something. But it was utterly useless fishing, and Wynne alone caught two small trout! Walked twoto Tyn-y-groes, where the trap was waiting for us. Trout (Mawddach) 2

Saturday April 12th   Got up this morning to find the country white with snow. Under a mistaken idea that the weather was going to get milder, we went off to Crogennan,  going to Arthog by rail. The weather was a succession of heavy snow storms all day, and I alone caught 7 trout. Wynne left in sheer disgust to catch the 3 o`clock train from Arthog, while I stayed a little longer, but a heavy snow storm drove me away. I walked down to Tyn y coed to return the key of the boat house, and then walked back to Dolgellau by road, meeting Wynne in the Town. We dressed at the Ship, and dined this evening with Mrs Morgan at Bryn y Gwyn, Charlie Owen being there. It froze and snowed hard tonight. Trout (Llyn Crogennan) 7

Tuesday April 15th   Not quite so cold as yesterday, and a cold rain fell during the morning, and the snow on the mountains melted quickly which rather discoloured the river. We drove up to the Black gate near Hengwrt Ucha, and fished down home., leaving off about 4 o`clock. Wynne had to leave this evening, and I went up to Nannau at 8 in a car, there being fireworks and a dance. I did not get home till 3 o`clock.  Trout 82   Two rods.

Wednesday April 16th   Had breakfast at 9: and as it was warmer, wind having gone NW, I went up to Llyn Cynwych [sic Cynwch], and saw several trout rising, but the breeze was very light and variable: and I did nothing. About 1.30 reached the river at Dolgun, and fished to the Big Pool, having good sport for 3 hours. A heavy hail storm brought my fishing to an abrupt termination, after which the fish would not rise. Dined this Evening at Bryn-y-gwyn...  Trout (Wnion) 40   Sea trout 2  (1) 3/4lb. (1) 1/2lb  the latter fish I am afraid were unclean fish.

Thursday April 17th   Today I went over to Talyllyn expecting a good day as wind was NW and it was bright and sunny. I walked over to the Lake, the trap not overtaking me till I reach the Lake. The Lake seemed apparently full of snow water, looking very blue. I had no sport, fish not rising: wind also very variable. A man staying at the Hotel got broken by a salmon before I commenced fishing, at the mouth of the stream at the top of the big Bay. I walked home from bottom of the pass, being wet and cold. Saturday April 19th It blew a moderate gale from SE bright and sunny, wind veering more southerly after midday. Went to a Arthog by  8.50 train, and after getting the key of the boat [house] [hepgorwyd y gair house], walked up to Crogennan. When I reached the Lake, fishing seemed out of the question, at all events, from the boat, the Lake being very rough. I put up my rod, and went to the little Lake, where I picked up six or seven, one about 6 ounces, the wind moderated about 12 o`clock, and I returned to the big lake [sic l nid L], and got the boat out. A few fish were rising, but it was very difficult to manage a boat: the wind blew everywhere, in squalls. I did badly in the afternoon, but finished up well at the little Lake, offshore. Scott, and a Mr Philpott, and young Self came up to fish in the afternoon, but I think he did very little. As I missed the train, I walked home, Evan Jones meeting me with the trap at Dolgun gate.  Trout (Llyn Crogennan [sic] 26   Flies.  Red spinner  Mallard wing March Brown   Harlequin   Partridge & yellow. Wednesday April 23rd   After a showery evening [neithiwr?], I determined to try "above the Falls" again, so this time drove to Tyn y groes,, walked above the Falls, and fished upstream. Showers all day, and a very heavy rain came after 4 o`clock which caused us to start homewards across the hill drenched to the skin, but it cleared up before I reached home which was not very long. Trout rose very well during the rain, a marked difference to the morning, in fact I made up the bag in the afternoon:   Trout (Mawddach) 75 Sent from Samsung Mobile

Thursday April 24th a fine and fresh day, wind westerly: a very good fishing day. Went up to Arthog with John Davies by the 8.50 train, and got the key of Davies` boat, which I had permission to use on Llyn Crogennan from young Scott, who, by the by, was up at the lake, some two hours before I was and entirely  monopolized the favourite bay, consequently I caught all my fish except one, in the small lake where there was a good rise on the fish, the red spinner coming on thick, but made the trout rather particular what they rose at. Got nothing very large, and as I said before, not using the boat at all, all my fishing being done by wading of the shore. Scott only killed 11, but had 2 or 3 good ones.   Trout Llyn Crogennan 31, most of the fish were killed by a fly dressed by John Davis, very [tanlinellwyd] like the natural......
