Y Tywyddiadur

Prif nodwedd y gronfa hon yw'r dyddiad, mis neu'r flwyddyn penodol sydd yn sail i'ch cofnod. Mae'r tywydd wrth gwrs yn rhywbeth sydd yn digwydd "rwan", pryd bynnag yw neu oedd "rwan" i'r cofnodwr gwreiddiol; y bore yma efallai, diwrnod arbennig yn eich plentyndod, neu sylw mewn dyddiadur dwy ganrif yn ôl yn sir Feirionnydd.... efallai. Neu efallai bod cysylltiad y sylw a'r tywydd yn ymddangosiadol wan iawn: tylluan wen yn hela am dri o'r gloch y prynhawn ar ddyddiad arbennig o Chwefror; clywed y gog yn canu ddiwedd mis Mawrth; teilo cae at datws ddechrau’r gwanwyn. Tywydd....? efallai! Ffenoleg...? yn bendant.

Mae'r Tywyddiadur yn rhyngweithiol - hynny yw, mi allwch rhoi gwybodaeth i fewn iddo, neu chael gwybodaeth allan. Y cam cyntaf y byddwch yn cymryd wrth fentro ar y dudalen hon felly fydd dewis pa un rydych am ei wneud.... Chwilio ynteu Mewnbynnu (blychod chwilio ar y chwith mewn glas, blychod mewnbynnu ar y dde mewn coch).

(Ewch i’r gwaelod am ganllawiau cychwynnol).

CHWILIO: Chi biau’r dewis: mis neu gyfnod arbennig efallai, blwyddyn, gair (neu ddau air), neu ddiwrnod penodol (treiwch ddyddiad eich pen-blwydd). Cewch wneud cyfuniad o rhain.

MEWNBYNNU: Trwy fewnbynnu cewch ychwanegu at y gronfa a chreu adnodd mwy cynhwysfawr fyth i ymchwilwyr fel chi. Dim ond tri amod sydd ar eich cofnod: ei fod yn cynnwys rhyw fath o ddyddiad, lleoliad (bras neu fanwl), a bod y cofnod rhywfodd yn gysylltiedig â’r amgylchedd.

Friday April 25th   Started over to Talyllyn this morning, and walked. As I soon saw, a strong wind got up from the S , followed by heavy rain. A worse day for Lake fishing could not have been imagined, the wind being very squally. However I tried both from boat and shore and from the former killed 1 good trout. Left off fishing at 3.30, and drove over to Cross Foxes expecting the Clwyedoc [sic  Clywedog ] to be in flood, but there was only some fresh water in it. Fished down below Caerynwch with fly, and then walked home. Very showery during the night.  Trout (Talyllyn) 4. Clwydoc 21

Saturday April 26th My last days` fishing, so I determined to make a long expedition up the Cemlyn to the Dolmelynllyn Lakes. I drove over to Tyn y groes and John Davies and I then walked up the Cemlyn above the wood and found the big pools in good order, but as I could not do much, and was in a hurry to get up to Llyn Ebbw (pron. Abbi) [sic Ybi?], I started off there, and reach the Lake in a hot and bright sun. Found the Lake much lower than I have ever seen it before. I did not see a fish move, and as John Davies rejoined me punctually at 1 o`clock with lunch, directly afterwards I started over to Llyn Perfeddau, leaving John at Ebbw. There was a nice breeze now and then on the little lake, but at first I could do nothing. But seeing a fish rise I threw somewhere near him, and landed a beautiful fish of 1/2lb  or more: I killed two others equally pretty, and in good condition: I returned to Ebbw at 4, a heavy shower of rain coming on; and as John Davies had not seen a fish rise at Ebbw, we hastened to the Cemlyn, and made up a good bag,  fishing till 6 o`clock. We walked home: and I was very tired when home: but enjoyed the expedition. Trout (Llyn Ebbw)  0   (Llyn Perfeddau) 3   Cemlyn 46 = 49

Otterbourne Grange, yr afon Itchen, 31ain Mai: "Saturday very wet: the Mayfly never came on well, and what few there were on the water, the fish seemed afraid of them. The best chance was on Saturday afternoon, for above Sir Thomas Fairbairn`s house, I saw good fish rising at the Mayfly: but it was impossible to float a dry fly in such rain

Saturday June 28th    Again drove over to Mawddach, and commenced at Gethi gemlyn [sic  Gelli gemlyn], at the tail end of which I landed my first Sewin, a fresh run little fish of 1  1/4lb. Tried hard for another, fishing up to Meeting of waters, but the stormy and unsettled weather is much against fishing, and I do not suppose there are many Sewin in the river yet. I saw a fine salmon jump at the Meeting of the waters. Drove home

Sunday June 29th   A finer day, but still stormy. I went down to see the pheasants at Dolgun during the morning. After lunch at 1: drove the old Horse in the cart to Barmouth and caught the 4 o`clock train to Llanbedr, intending to stay there to fish Glowlyn etc. Hardly could be taken in at the Victoria Inn, and had to put up with a very small room. Two very pleasant men staying there,  one (Adair) knew Wynne at John`s School.

Monday June 30th One of the other fellows had started up to Glowlyn [sic  Gloywlyn] over night, intending to sleep on the mountains, but the threatening state of the sky made him alter his mind, so when Adair and I got up there, which we did at 9.30: we found he had slept at the farm house, Cwmyravon. Later a man called Webster came up, with a boy, so we were five rods, too many for Glowlyn!  Apparently a good day, but a heavy mist hung on the mountains. I had not a single fish at lunch time, but caught 6 afterwards by dint of hard fishing. They were small for Glowlyn.  [B. trout 6]

Tuesday 1st July 1879   The weather made me alter my plans, as fishing mountain lakes this sort of weather is a farce. So I took the 12.10 train to Dolgelley, and walking back to Dolserau, I lost no time in being on the river which had been in very high flood. By the time I commenced fishing it was just clear enough for fly, this was about 3 o`clock. Fished between Llyn Coch and Dolgun, and only saw one decent fish (I think a sewin) in the Ford Pool. Heavy, squally showers again this Evening, and weather most unsettled

Thursday July 3rd Started over again to the Mawddach and found the river in fair order, but it was a sultry day. I fished right up to the Falls but only rose one Salmon, and he came very shyly, in the Minors pool. Only captured one Sewin, and rose very few,. Home early walking home by Llyn Cynwych [sic] from Gethi gemlyn. The Squire arrived this evening

Friday July 4th As I expected, it rained heavily during the night, and still rained this morning, and continued very showery all day. Started about 8.30 to Tyn y groes and calling for John Ellis I went right up the Eden straight, and began at the bridge. Very glad I was I did so, as at one o`clock I stuck in a fine salmon at the Larch pool rising him first toThunder and Lightning, and hooking him with a double hooked Durham Ranger. For an hour and a half I played this fish very carefully and had the satisfaction to land him all right. After lunch I fished down Eden, and was unlucky losing some very good fish, nor did my luck desert me when I crossed over to Mawddach but at six o clock in the evening I rose a salmon twice, hooking him a second time at the Rock pool. After this I gave up and walked to Tyn y groes where I stayed the night Salmon 1 Sea trout 1 Brown trout 2 Salmon Eden 11lbs Double h Durham Ranger

July Saturday 5th Was on the river by 8: and tried the pools which I thought likely up to the Meeting of the Waters, and then went up the Mawddach. I rose a salmon in the [Gut] pool, but I could not get him to come again: he was a large fish. It turned out a very sulky [sultry] day: and I tried right up to the Falls, and most of the pools to Tyn y groes. Gave up soon after 5: rather tired, and drove home. Sewin would not rise at all. Tuesday 8th July Heavy rain fell during the night, and I got up early and went out on Wnion, but although the river was in worm order, it was clearing rapidly. After breakfast I determined to stick to the Wnion, and I was glad I did. I captured the smaller of the two fish at the big Rock opposite [Pugh`] of Dolserau`s farm. I fished some way up going to Bont Rhayadr, but it was not till I came down to the pool in the hollow that I stuck in a good fish: a 4lb grilse, perfectly fresh run. Both of these fish were killed on small sewin flies. Mallard wing red body, black body ribbed Wnion grilse 1 Sea trout 1 B. trout 12 Grilse 4 lbs Sea trout 3lb 1oz

Wednesday 9th July The Assizes were held today but such a heavy downpour of rain fell that I did not hesitate to start to Mawddach and glad I was that I did, for my sport was first rate. I put up at Gethigemlyn farm and began at Gethigemlyn pool with worm. Here I captured the four sea trout (3 [and a half]. 2 [and a half]. 2 [and a quarter] 1lb) and crossing over the bridge at Bryn cemlyn in the pool above Afon Wen, I hooked a first-rate fish which gave me great sport: but unfortunately after playing him sometime I lost him. I was rather undecided after this what to do, but I determined to cross over the Mawddach at the top bridge and go to Eden. This I lost no time in doing and fortunately Hugh Jones was with me. For I had the luck to hook a fine salmon in what I now call (Llyn [heb gau`r cromfachau] a pool which I hardly thought it worthwhile to fish . The beggar played and stupidly at first, but when he saw Huw Jones come near him with the net he stirred up, and fought very well, but in 15 minutes he was on the bank (10 [and a half pounds]. After this, I had to go home. But was very pleased with my day . Salmon was caught on Pat Hearne Thunder and Lightning. Salmon 1 Sea trout 4 B. Trout 8 Eden Salmon 10 [and a half pounds] sea trout 3 [and a half] 2 [and a half] 2 [and a quarter] 1lb

Friday 11th July 1879 At last a really fine day, though somewhat too bright for Lake fishing. However I spent a very pleasant day at Talyllyn walking over there, and getting the boat. I commenced fishing at 11 o`clock. This morning the fish were rising a bit, and I killed 6 by lunch time. The sun became hot and bright in the afternoon and it was very hard to get a trout to rise. I fished till 5.45 : hoping to make up to 10 trout, but this I failed to do. Walked home fast, and got back at 7:45. The flies used were Red ant, Partridge & Green, Grouse & Orange, Red Spinner. I caught none over 1/2 lb Trout 9

Saturday, July 12, 1879 This morning attended Board of Guardians with the Squire. Weather unsettled, and threatening rain. After lunch at 2 went out on Wnion and fished from Bontnewydd. Lost a good sewin in the bathing pool, the barb of the small coch y bondhu fly breaking. Charlie Owen came up this afternoon to play lawn tennis, but of course owing to weather it was out of the question. He stayed the night

Monday, 14 July 1879 I was very undecided what to do this morning, and nearly went over to the Eden, but I eventually went to Llyn Cynwch, and tried there till late in the afternoon. Tuesday, July 15, 1879 Tom Sheriff and I went to the Big Pool this morning and bathed. After breakfast we went into Dolgellau and attended Petty Sessions. Business being soon over, we started to Llanelltyd to see the netting, but on the road we met Hugh Jones returning with his cart. He had 60 fine Grilse and Sea trout and a salmon of 15lb. This afternoon we had some capital lawn tennis, and the afternoon was really fine. Bathed again this Evening

Thursday, July 17 A really fine and warm day. Tom and I walked to the top of the torrent and there Charlie Owen met us, and he drove us over to Talyllyn in his dogcart.... It was a bad day for fishing, but a delightful one for a picnic. When we began fishing in the morning, fish were rising all over the lake, but the breeze was too light, and in the afternoon it died away to nothing. I only caught one trout and that was in the afternoon. Talyllyn Trout 1

Friday 18th July I bathed this morning at the Big Pool. After breakfast I went up to Llyn Cynwych [sic.] and after catching some minnows, began Perch fishing. It was a still and warm day, but the Perch did not bite particularly well, and I missed a good number. I gave up about 5: as I was anxious to go home to play lawn tennis. But it turned out a good evening for Perch fishing, about the best we have had. Perch 9 Llyn Cynwych

Monday, July 21 I made an early start to the Mawddachn, intending to stay at Tyn y groes the night. Drove to the junction, and here met Col Romer`s coachman who told me Col Romer had been up the Eden and found it too high. So I walked up the Mawddach to the Rock Pool, and here rose a grilse on Durham Ranger and changing my fly hooked him on the Mallard wing red & blue wool mohair body ribbed silver tinsel-blue hackle. Delighted with my early success I fished on up, but only rose one more fish, that was a salmon in the top pool, I pricked the fish, and held him hard, consequently he would not come again. Afterwards he would not come again. Afterwards I went on Eden and tried all the best pools up to the Larch pool, but although it was in good order, I did not rise a [single] fish. Got back to Tyn y groes at 8 o`clock - rather tired Salmon 1 weight 5 1/2lbs

Tuesday 22nd July River in good order. I had half a mind to go up to the Black pools this morning, but as there was apparently no wind, I gave the idea up, and so 8 o`clock saw me commence fishing on Mawddach. It turned out and uneventful day for I only met one Sewin, although I went right up to the Falls, and then walked over the hill, crossing the Caine [sic. Wednesday 23rd July After breakfast at 9:30 this morning, I commenced fishing on Wnion., Beginning at Dolgun and fishing all the best pools up, hoping to get some Sewin. I hooked a fine fish in the crooked pool (of course, on a trout fly) and lost him after a good fight. Fishing up to Bontnewydd, I had no sport so in the afternoon went up to Llyn Cynwych which was no good, wind being strong and rather cold. Coming down again to the Ford, I hooked another Sewin, which broke the barbs of my fly. Really bad luck. Millais was on the river, and I gave the few trout a caught to him. Wnion Trout 8
