Y Tywyddiadur

Prif nodwedd y gronfa hon yw'r dyddiad, mis neu'r flwyddyn penodol sydd yn sail i'ch cofnod. Mae'r tywydd wrth gwrs yn rhywbeth sydd yn digwydd "rwan", pryd bynnag yw neu oedd "rwan" i'r cofnodwr gwreiddiol; y bore yma efallai, diwrnod arbennig yn eich plentyndod, neu sylw mewn dyddiadur dwy ganrif yn ôl yn sir Feirionnydd.... efallai. Neu efallai bod cysylltiad y sylw a'r tywydd yn ymddangosiadol wan iawn: tylluan wen yn hela am dri o'r gloch y prynhawn ar ddyddiad arbennig o Chwefror; clywed y gog yn canu ddiwedd mis Mawrth; teilo cae at datws ddechrau’r gwanwyn. Tywydd....? efallai! Ffenoleg...? yn bendant.

Mae'r Tywyddiadur yn rhyngweithiol - hynny yw, mi allwch rhoi gwybodaeth i fewn iddo, neu chael gwybodaeth allan. Y cam cyntaf y byddwch yn cymryd wrth fentro ar y dudalen hon felly fydd dewis pa un rydych am ei wneud.... Chwilio ynteu Mewnbynnu (blychod chwilio ar y chwith mewn glas, blychod mewnbynnu ar y dde mewn coch).

(Ewch i’r gwaelod am ganllawiau cychwynnol).

CHWILIO: Chi biau’r dewis: mis neu gyfnod arbennig efallai, blwyddyn, gair (neu ddau air), neu ddiwrnod penodol (treiwch ddyddiad eich pen-blwydd). Cewch wneud cyfuniad o rhain.

MEWNBYNNU: Trwy fewnbynnu cewch ychwanegu at y gronfa a chreu adnodd mwy cynhwysfawr fyth i ymchwilwyr fel chi. Dim ond tri amod sydd ar eich cofnod: ei fod yn cynnwys rhyw fath o ddyddiad, lleoliad (bras neu fanwl), a bod y cofnod rhywfodd yn gysylltiedig â’r amgylchedd.

Thursday, July 24 Connie Campbell, who arrived with his sister yesterday started with me this morning to the Mawddach, as it looked very like being a wet day. But it turned out beautifully fine, and so I did not stay long, but tried some of the most likely pools, and we went up to the Meeting of the Waters which was in very good order. We got back to Tyn y groes about one, and so were home by 2 o`clock. ...

Friday 25th July I had the boat sent up to Llyn Cynwych, and Connie and I walked up afterwards. It was a fine and fresh day, but too windy for Perch fishing. I tried mostly with fly, and caught three, and lost a good fish. We stayed up at the Lake till pretty late, and went to the Ford on my way down and rose a Sewin 3 times. Llyn Cynwych [sic. Saturday 26th July I was out fishing about 8 o`clock, and had the luck to hook a nice Sewin at the crooked Pool, and landed him. I caught him on a small red spinner. After 9.30 breakfast I fished right up the Wnion, and as the trout were rising well, I had some good sport, fishing up Feri-newydd [sic]. I was just in time to dress for 8 o`clock dinner Wnion Sea trout 1 1 1/2 lbs. B. Trout 60

Monday 28th July I started this morning at 9: to see about the shooting at Dinas. Drove to the bottom of Penantigi, sending my clothes &c on to the Bulkeley Arms. Kinsey and I went up on to Caeafon with the dogs, and beat the ground, and were well pleased at what birds we saw. We met Ned Morris, the watcher on the ground, descending to Maesygamdda, I stayed there a short time, and saw the tenants of Tynbraich and Maesglassey [sic] on my way down, paying the shooting rates. I also saw Jones, Tyncelyn, and got the Llwyncelyn the shooting for 10£

Tuesday, 29 July 1879 A very hot day, and rather close for walking. About 9 we started up from the Hotel to Llwyn Gwilym, a very good way of going, as it saved the long round to Llanymawddy [sic]. We met Thomas Lewis sheep shearing near the hill, so I had not to go down to his farm. We saw several coveys, birds well grown, but coveys small. I walked back the same way we had come and got back about 5 o`clock

Thursday, 31 July 1879 It was raining so heavily this morning that I very nearly went to the Mawddach, but after 8 o`clock breakfast, changing my mind, Connie and I went on the Wnion, and I fished up from Dolgun. The river did not rise much till the afternoon, and I only met one Sewin and that was at the first pool in Dolganedd wood. I hooked him on a small red spinner, and after playing him for some time he got off. I went up to Bont Rhiadyr and then turned homewards. Connie left me before lunch. Wynne with a man called Stokes arrived this evening Wnion Trout 15

During these five days August 26 27th 28th 29th 30th which I spent at Kirklington hall, the weather was most stormy and wet, quite spoiling all my chance of fishing. The river the Lyne all Line, runs into the Solway Firth, and I should consider a good trout stream. Whiting (Sea trout) also run-up, also an occasional Salmon. The water during my visit was the colour of yellow and red clay. I made an attempt to fish for a few hours (with fly) on Wednesday afternoon (27th) and caught 5 trout: some a quarter of a pound: but it was very odd that I should have caught any in such thick water. Fished again also on Friday morning (29th) but water was a worse colour. Only caught 3 small trout The Lyne (Cumberland) Trout 8

Friday 1st August Wynne, Connie, Stokes and I went to the Mawddach early this morning, and after the heavy rain found it bank full, but falling fast. I, accompanied by Connie went up to the Rock pool, and fished to the Falls. Wynne with Stokes fished up from Tyn y groes, and joined us at lunch. The sun was intensely hot and bright all day, so the others went home after lunch. I wanted to see Colonel Romer so I waited, and fished my way down to Tyn y groes, and walked home. I caught one Sewin 1 1/4lbs. Wynne had a small one. Sea trout 2 (1) 1 1/4lbs

Saturday 2nd August 1879. A most beautiful sunny day. We had a picnic at Llyn Cynwych. [sic Cynwch], and combined some fishing with it. Stokes and I went up during the morning, and tried for trout in the small boat. I caught two: and one other in the afternoon. Rain came on just as we got in, and we were fortunate in not getting wet through. Weather very stormy this evening and threatening. Trout 3 Perch 1. Llyn Cynwch

Rain threatening all day, and it fell heavily this evening. Wynne and Ned Greaves fished up the Wnion, but did no good. The sea trout I caught among the rocks below Bryncemlyn. Tuesday 5 August A terribly wet day, and stormy: I was out this morning by 7 o`clock, and went to the Ford, finding the river in worm order, but it was falling very fast. I caught one Sewin of 2lbs: and although I tried some other pools, Dolgun, Crooked pool, meeting of the Waters I did not get another. After breakfast Wynne and Ned went over to the Mawddach, while Stokes accompanied me on the Wnion: the river rose steadily later in the day, but was never a good colour for worm, and the fish took very badly. Fished the best pools up to the viaduct, and then ended at Dolgun. Only caught one other 2 1/2 pounds at the Ford. Wynne and Ned had a good day at Getligemlyn [sic] and other pools. Rain very heavy tonight Wnion. sea trout 2 (1) 2lbs. (1) 2 1/2lbs Mawddach Sea trout 4 (1) 4lbs. (1) 2 1/2lbs

Wednesday 6 August 1879 Dancing last night necessitated a later start...... went on to the Mawddach putting the trap up at Gethigemlyn [sic] farm. River in worm order and very high: and frequent heavy showers during the day kept it up high. I caught a good sewin (4 1/4lbs) at Gethigemlyn, but did not do anything more till I got to the Meeting of the Waters where I got two small ones, and one also just above. I then went up above the wooden bridge to try fly, but it was rather too discoloured. Walking back to Gethigemlyn, found the river just getting clear for fly. At the tail of the pool I hooked a Salmon on double hooked Durham Ranger, a very heavy fish. Caught my second best sewin there, and rose several smaller. I did not get home till 8.30. Wynne only caught one sewin on Wnion. Mawddach. Sea trout 5 (1) 4 1/4lbs. (1) 2 1/2lbs Wnion Sea trout (1) 1 1/2 lbs

Thursday 7 August 1879 A fine day, and rather bright for fishing in the morning...... Pearson and I drove over to Tyn y groes to fish. Mawddach in fair order, and much clearer than usual. Pearson began at Tyn y groes while I went up to Cemlyn flat, below meeting of Waters, and I had a bad stroke of luck, as after about a dozen throws I hooked a fresh run fish of 8 or 9lbs on small Butcher. The fish unfortunately got off, and I was surprised as I thought him well hooked . Caught a sewin of 2lbs at meeting of Waters, and afterwards I went up, Pearson joining me for lunch. We went over to Eden in the afternoon, but it was too low to expect to do much, and fishing down from Meeting of Waters we had no further luck,

Went down to lunch with the Millais at Garthmaelan, and the others from Dolserau came to play lawn tennis. About 5 o`clock, I went down to the Wnion, and tried for a sewin: and captured a small one at the meeting of the Waters. Midges terrible. Llyn Cynwych Trout 2. Wnion. Sewin 1

Tuesday 12th August A fine morning, promised a still finer day, though we had to make a much earlier start than usual, owing to my hearing that the Buckley`s were likely to be up on Caeafon. An alteration of plans was consequently made, and instead of going to Llwyngwilim, we started at 7. for Caeafon. It was very misty on the top, and we should not have begun shooting, only our men gave us notice that the Plas yn dinas party were on the hill shooting. We met, and after an attempt on their part to continue shooting, we saw them off the ground: they had only killed three small birds. Altogether we had 5 brace, some good birds, but coveys were small, and we had full proof of what a bad grouse season it is here. We shot till 4.30 and then went down to Dinas. Heard that the Plas yn Dinas party went up to Llwyngwilim in the afternoon.

Wednesday 13th August 1879 Wynne and I started about 8 up to Llanymawddwy in the trap, and walked up to Llwyngwilim to shoot. On our way we met young Thomas the Werngau shooting on his bit, and he told us he had met and warned the party off yesterday afternoon. On reaching the top of the Bwlch, the owner of a farm called Pant, came to offer me the shooting over the farm, which I accepted. We had a long walk over Bwlch y groes, found two coveys too small to shoot, killed one lot, and after beating the higher ground without seeing a bird we crossed over to Pant: saw a good many birds, but they were very wild. Friday, 15 August 1879 I made a very early start this morning to Llamymawddy [sic] hearing that the Plas yn Dinas party intended going in that direction. Was on Llwyngwilim before nine, and as it was a glorious day, we expected some sport. Found a good covey of 8 birds on the first hill, but they were awfully wild: and we left them. Killed a brace here, and began at the top of the ground near Lord Powis` boundary: so a few birds here, and we were coming along the Blein Pennant boundary, when I heard shots, and running up to the top of the hill I met the Buckley`s again, accompanied by a man who I afterwards discovered was Tamberlain, and acted as spokesman. They seemed determined to cross the Llwyngwilim boundary, and with the intention is I thought of shooting, but they merely walked across the ground to Braich Llwyd [sic]: Kinsey saw them off the ground. After this interruption I had lunch, and beating the ground very carefully I made up to 5 brace. Young Thomas of Werngau came up and shot with us in the afternoon. Got back to Dinas about 7, rather tired. Llwyn gwilim Grouse 10
