Y Tywyddiadur

Prif nodwedd y gronfa hon yw'r dyddiad, mis neu'r flwyddyn penodol sydd yn sail i'ch cofnod. Mae'r tywydd wrth gwrs yn rhywbeth sydd yn digwydd "rwan", pryd bynnag yw neu oedd "rwan" i'r cofnodwr gwreiddiol; y bore yma efallai, diwrnod arbennig yn eich plentyndod, neu sylw mewn dyddiadur dwy ganrif yn ôl yn sir Feirionnydd.... efallai. Neu efallai bod cysylltiad y sylw a'r tywydd yn ymddangosiadol wan iawn: tylluan wen yn hela am dri o'r gloch y prynhawn ar ddyddiad arbennig o Chwefror; clywed y gog yn canu ddiwedd mis Mawrth; teilo cae at datws ddechrau’r gwanwyn. Tywydd....? efallai! Ffenoleg...? yn bendant.

Mae'r Tywyddiadur yn rhyngweithiol - hynny yw, mi allwch rhoi gwybodaeth i fewn iddo, neu chael gwybodaeth allan. Y cam cyntaf y byddwch yn cymryd wrth fentro ar y dudalen hon felly fydd dewis pa un rydych am ei wneud.... Chwilio ynteu Mewnbynnu (blychod chwilio ar y chwith mewn glas, blychod mewnbynnu ar y dde mewn coch).

(Ewch i’r gwaelod am ganllawiau cychwynnol).

CHWILIO: Chi biau’r dewis: mis neu gyfnod arbennig efallai, blwyddyn, gair (neu ddau air), neu ddiwrnod penodol (treiwch ddyddiad eich pen-blwydd). Cewch wneud cyfuniad o rhain.

MEWNBYNNU: Trwy fewnbynnu cewch ychwanegu at y gronfa a chreu adnodd mwy cynhwysfawr fyth i ymchwilwyr fel chi. Dim ond tri amod sydd ar eich cofnod: ei fod yn cynnwys rhyw fath o ddyddiad, lleoliad (bras neu fanwl), a bod y cofnod rhywfodd yn gysylltiedig â’r amgylchedd.

Saturday 16th August 1879 Kinsey and I started about nine from Dinas taking the trap to the bottom of the bigin, and sending Evan Jones home with it. Walked up to the top of the bigin, and expected a fine day, but rain came on from East, but fortunately for us it stopped about 1 o`clock. We found a fine covey of birds, out of which I killed two, and Kinsey one, and we picked up a single bird afterwards. Descending to Coedmaeswglog and Gelli, we beat all the ground carefully, but only saw five or six birds. I had three shots, killing two birds and a wood pigeon. We went down to Pont Rhiadr, where I found the Squire waiting for is in the dog cart, and he took his home. Wynne fished Wnion and caught 80 trout and one Sewin. The bigin & Coedmaeswglog Grouse 6 W Pigeon 1

Sunday 17th August 1879 Rain fell very heavily all day. Some of us went to Church in the morning. Wynne I went out to see the river, and in the afternoon took the letters into Dolgelley, English Harrison coming with us, and we had tea at Fronallt on our way. The river was in very high flood all day.

Monday 18th August Wynne and I started to the Mawddach about 8.45. I was out on the Wnion before breakfast, but only met two sewin. We picked English up in Dolgelley, and he came with us all day. We fished right up the Mawddach, lunching at the Falls. I captured a 3lb Sewin a soon as I began at the lower rock pool, and this was the only decent fish we got all day, although I rose a grilse twice at the pool below the Falls, and English Harrison a salmon . I came down below Tyn y Groes in the evening, and fished to Gethigemlyn [sic]..... Sea trout 3. (1) 3lbs

Tuesday 19th August 1879 As the day looked fine, I determined to go up to Cae Coch, but as the horses were wanted, I had to walk. John Davies was with me, and we began beating the hill about 12: we immediately came across a covey of 10 but they were very wild. We saw two more coveys, all strong birds. Had powder been straighter we should have killed three or four brace: but birds were very wild. Walked home and was just in time to dress to go up to dinner at Caerynwch.....

Wednesday 20th August 1879 We started to have a picnic at Talyllyn; Wynne and I going over earlier in Charlie Owen`s dog cart, but as soon as we got to the top of the Pass, rain came on, and we thought we were in for a wet day. So we turned back, and met the carriage, but they went on. As it turned out, the weather cleared, and we were disappointed that we did not go on. After lunch Wynne and I went to the river: Wynne busied himself in catching a good basket of small trout. I tried for Sewin, only hooking one at the Ford. I picked up a salmon killed by an otter that morning at the Big Pool. What remained of him was 5 1/2 pounds – fresh run. Trout 94+10 = 104. Salmon 5 1/2lb killed by an otter

22nd of August 1879 Friday It rained very heavily indeed during the night, but we hardly expected to see the Mawddach so high as it was. English Harrison drove Wynne and myself over in his pony chaise. Finding the river dirty we stopped at Gethigemlyn [sic.], and had to get worms. Fish took very badly and we only killed six small Sewin – three each – none over a lb. After 2 o`clock we took to fly, and Wynne alone met a fish, a good one at the top pool of the Mawddach. I did not rise a single fish: the water was very black. A very windy day, but the wind fell later in the evening. Maeddach 6 Seatrout small

Saturday, 23 August 1879 I went out before breakfast to try the on the Wnion, but the morning was bright, and I had no sport. It turned out a glorious day. English called for me about 10, and we drove up to Drws y nant, to shoot on Cae Coch, John Davies also carried a gun. I expected to see some birds, but there were next to none on the hill today, and we had to content ourselves with a pleasant walk. Home by 4 o`clock and we played some lawn tennis. The rest of the party picniced on the "Folly". Grouse 1

Monday 1st September 1879 A most beautiful day. I was out by 6.30 fishing the Wnion. A cold bright morning. Came into breakfast at 8, having got a small sewin. Commenced afterwards at Dolgun, and fished up to the viaduct, having to leave off by 2 o`clock. I met 3 sewin, killing a small one, and some nice trout. I started away by the 3.55 train to stay with the Sheriffs at Crogen. We dined this evening at Palé.

Water was in fair order, but fish were not in a taking mode, although there were are plenty of them in the river. I rose two, one a good fish. And singularly they were in consecutive pools. Thursday 4 September 1879 We were not very early this morning, but Tom and I were at Palè [sic] by 11 o`clock. Some of us started on ponies to shoot on Pale hill viz George Wilson, Tom Sheriff and Dick Peacock in one party, and Dick Grieves, Mr Robertson and I composed the other. We met again at lunch at 3 o`clock, to which the ladies came. A fine and warm day, perfect for shooting, made the birds lie tolerably well, and considering the time we were at it, we did not do at all badly. Mr Grieves and I killed 12 brace, and the others 9 1/2 - total 21 1/2 brace Palè Hill grouse 43

Saturday 6 September 1879 A fine day, and we had another pleasant day on the hill, but birds were not so plentiful, in fact they were in places very scarsce [sic], old birds predominating. We road up to Llandrillo and shot the boil [?] and Llandrillo Hill. Tom Sheriff and George Wilson shooting together, while Fred Peacock, Mr R, and I went in another direction. We had 5 brace and a hare to their 3 1/2 brace by lunch time, but afterwards they turned the tables on us, killing 6 brace to our one brace and a half, but we saw no birds at all [?].We all left the hill together by 4.15 and I was thus able to catch the 5.13 train home. Monday 8 September 1879 Very showery day: but it seemed so clear and bright in the morning but I decided not to go to the Mawddach, but on Coedmaeswglog and the bigin to shoot. I am sorry as matters turned out, that I did not go to the river. Kinsey and I drove to Bont Rhiadyr [sic. Bon Rhaiadr], and went on Coedmaeswglog, where I killed a brace. Here we were caught in a tremendous shower, but as it stopped, I determined to go up on the bigin, but we did not see many birds. Tuesday 9 September 1879 I was out this morning about 6.30 to find the Wnion in high flood, and the rain still continued. I tried from the Ford to Dolgun with worm before breakfast, and killed two Sewin, both small. After breakfast I drove over to the Mawddach Ned Morris (our new underkeeper) coming with me. River high and dirty. Commenced at Gethigemlyn [sic], and caught 4 or 5 Sewin there, and I am sorry to say lost two good ones: crossed over to the pool below Bryn Cemlyn, and went up as far as the Meeting of the Waters and then gave up at 3, just when the river was getting in grand order for fly; but I was obliged to go as I left this evening by 6.45 mail to Town. Friday, 19 September 1879 A fine day, warm, wind SE. We had a very pleasant picnic at Llyn Cynwych [sic] today. I went up during the morning to fish, and I was regularly beat by the fish, which were rising in great numbers for a tiny midge. They would not look at any fly I tried. I gave the Perch try for half an hour or so before going down to the river, and caught three; and Connie Campbell who came up with the Millais caught one. I fished the Wnion from 4.30 till 6.45, and tried for sewin from the Ford at Dolgun. Did not see one, but caught a very good trout weighing 9 oz. Llyn Cynwych and Wnion Perch 4. B trout 16 (1) 9oz

Saturday, 20 September 1879 I thought the weather was going to hold up this morning, so at 8 I started to Talyllyn walking over, but as soon as I got to the top of the Pass, I saw that the lake was very rough: and the weather got stormier until rain began at one o`clock. Unfortunately I could only get a very heavy boat, so I had hard work to manage it. A good many fish were rising between 11 and three, but the leak was so rough, fishing with success was well nigh an impossibility, and I could only fish the top bay. I caught 3 nice trout, and lost several, but I could not imitate the natural on the water - a small dun. Wet through, I left the lake at 3.15, and reached home soon after 5.
