Y Tywyddiadur

Prif nodwedd y gronfa hon yw'r dyddiad, mis neu'r flwyddyn penodol sydd yn sail i'ch cofnod. Mae'r tywydd wrth gwrs yn rhywbeth sydd yn digwydd "rwan", pryd bynnag yw neu oedd "rwan" i'r cofnodwr gwreiddiol; y bore yma efallai, diwrnod arbennig yn eich plentyndod, neu sylw mewn dyddiadur dwy ganrif yn ôl yn sir Feirionnydd.... efallai. Neu efallai bod cysylltiad y sylw a'r tywydd yn ymddangosiadol wan iawn: tylluan wen yn hela am dri o'r gloch y prynhawn ar ddyddiad arbennig o Chwefror; clywed y gog yn canu ddiwedd mis Mawrth; teilo cae at datws ddechrau’r gwanwyn. Tywydd....? efallai! Ffenoleg...? yn bendant.

Mae'r Tywyddiadur yn rhyngweithiol - hynny yw, mi allwch rhoi gwybodaeth i fewn iddo, neu chael gwybodaeth allan. Y cam cyntaf y byddwch yn cymryd wrth fentro ar y dudalen hon felly fydd dewis pa un rydych am ei wneud.... Chwilio ynteu Mewnbynnu (blychod chwilio ar y chwith mewn glas, blychod mewnbynnu ar y dde mewn coch).

(Ewch i’r gwaelod am ganllawiau cychwynnol).

CHWILIO: Chi biau’r dewis: mis neu gyfnod arbennig efallai, blwyddyn, gair (neu ddau air), neu ddiwrnod penodol (treiwch ddyddiad eich pen-blwydd). Cewch wneud cyfuniad o rhain.

MEWNBYNNU: Trwy fewnbynnu cewch ychwanegu at y gronfa a chreu adnodd mwy cynhwysfawr fyth i ymchwilwyr fel chi. Dim ond tri amod sydd ar eich cofnod: ei fod yn cynnwys rhyw fath o ddyddiad, lleoliad (bras neu fanwl), a bod y cofnod rhywfodd yn gysylltiedig â’r amgylchedd.

[Parhad o gofnod 7 Awst 1880: Mawddach Sewin 3 (1 )2 1/2lbs. Sewin {cyfanswm?} Sewin 49]. Monday, 9 August [1880] I drove over to Tyn y groes and went to Eden first, but the river was low: and as the sun came out very strongly during the day, it was very little good fishing. I tried up to Larch tree pool, and then went to the Mawddach and tried up to the Falls, but to no purpose, so I returned to the Meeting of the Waters and waited quietly till the sun went off the water. As soon as I began I hooked and lost a good sewin in the rocks below the Meeting of the Waters, and go [sic] after to Gethi gemlyn [sic Gelli gemlyn]. I rose two or three very good fish and caught one. I fished below to Dolgloeuw [sic] where the trap met me, and I drove home late, not getting in till nearly tea. Mawddach. Sea trout 1 1lb

Tuesday, 10 August [1880] Went out on the Wnion with small flies early this morning and fished from Dolserau Issa [sic] to Dolgun. I caught one sewin at the Pool in the Hollow and lost one in the pool below. This morning at 10.30 I rode down and attended a Petty Sessions. Came back to lunch, and afterwards went up to Llyn Cynwch to try for Perch but I did not stay long as I was anxious to meet Heatley Noble who came from Park Place to shoot with me. He arrived alright by the 6 o`clock train. Weather very fine and warm. Wnion & Llyn Cynwch Sea trout 1 1lb 4 oz Perch 4

Wednesday 11th August Heatley and I bathed this morning at the Big Pool. It was a beautiful day: this afternoon we started off for Maesygamdda Farm to be in preparation for tomorrow. We started at 2 o`clock and drove as far as the top of Bwlch yr oerdrws [sic. Bwlch yr Oerddrws], and then walked over Penantige hill, reaching Maesygamdda at 5 o`clock. We had a bath in the stream, and were made as comfortable circumstances would admit. We turned into bed about 8: but could not sleep a wink owing to the excitement of the morrow.

Thursday, August 12, 1880 We got up soon after 12, and it was just 1.10: when we started up for the top of Caeafon: fortunately it was the most beautiful night, and we could not have been more fortunate in the weather. We reached the top about 2.30 and sat down until the morning dawned, and in the meantime we heard whistling and not long after saw two men who turned out to be Jack Ellis and old Will. We warned them off and began beating the ground about 4.30. We found most birds on Maesyglassey: and as powder was straight we soon had 5 1/2 brace. all [sic atalnodi] this time Jack Ellis bothered us a good deal and we could not beat the ground as we liked: in fact dogs were not much use. We breakfasted at 7:30, and after that had little sport, so we gave up and went down, and drove over to Llwyngwilym Farm: where we stayed. Bathed: and had tea and turned in early Caeafon Grouse 13

Friday 13th of August We started up to the moor at 6 o`clock. Keatley rode up, and I and the men went up the zigzag path: and it was about 7.10 when we began shooting. We soon found a good many birds, and that was near Lord Powis` boundary: and had we been luckier with them we should have had a very good day. Jack Ellis came up about 10.30: & bothered us a good deal, but we waited patiently in the afternoon he chose to go, and after that in the evening we picked up several birds, and made our bag up to 9 brace. Wind was easterly and the weather beautifully fine. Birds very fine. We went down to Llwyngwilim Farm, bathed and had tea dinner about 8 o`clock. Bess, Nel and Rock worked in good form. Saturday, 14 August 1880 We left Llwyngwilim farm this morning and drove down to Tyncelyn. Kinsey and the men meeting is there: and they had heard that Jack Ellis with dog and gun had gone on the bigin [sic] so I determined to give up going on Caeafon, and follow him. I started up as quick as I could and Heatley and Kinsey came up by the path. I soon reached the top, and was not log in spotting my friend, Jack Ellis, and I heard from him that the Bulkeleys were coming up, and in about an hour and a half they appeared: but no signs of Heatley and Kinsey, and when the former did appear he said that Kinsey had succumbed to sunstroke: the sun being intensely hot. The Bulkeleys began shooting, so as we had no dogs we did not interfere with them, and as soon as Sir Edmund Bulkeley was there himself, and made no remark to me, I thought it better to hold my tongue. Heatley and I with the two men then turned down to Coedmaeswglog, and lunched at a stream on the way. We had some nice little sport, finding three very good coveys of birds, all very well grown.Heatleybwas somewhat lucky in his shooting, and killed nine birds to my one! but this was the uncertainty of walking birds up. The trap met us at Bont y Bont y Rhiadyr and we drove home. (The bigin) Coedmaeswglog Gelli Grouse 10

Monday, 16 August 1880 A misty morning: wind easterly. We railed up to Llanuwchllyn this morning, and walked up the pass to the top of Bwlch y groes. We beat Bwlch y groes first and found one nice covey, but otherwise birds were scarce. Late in the afternoon we crossed over to Pant, and here found plenty of birds, but this may have been accounted for by the fact of Llewyllyn [sic] and Sir Watkin Wynn shooting on the adjoining moors. The birds being so near the boundary: of course we lost a good number by their flying over immediately. We had a long walk back to Llwyngwilym: and we were tired enough when we got in. We were not interfered with at all today. Dogs worked splendidly Bwlch y groes Pant Grouse 17 Bwlch y groes 10 Pant 7

Tuesday 17th August We started up to the moor later than usual, and on our arrival there found that Jack Ellis with dog and gun had anticipated us and had no doubt beaten the greater part of the moor. He kept us bothering about before he would go, and he then crossed over to Cefn breeth [sic. Cefn Brith?]: and we beat the big [?back], and found some birds here but they were awfully wild. The wind was very cold whilst we were waiting and Heathley got a chill, and was indisposed all day: so we left the hill early, and this evening drove down to the Bulkeley Arms, where we were more comfortable: and wanted sleep badly, as we had had little the night before. Wednesday 18th August This morning Kinsey with my gun went up to Caeafon before us in order to antcipate Jack Ellis: and I am very glad I sent him as he had one grouse, and Jack would have beaten the whole ground. What few birds we did see were very wild, and we only killed one more, and then crossed over to Penantigi having made an early lunch at the last stream, as we knew there was no water on Penantigi. We only found one grouse here! the covey we had seen crossing over on the 11th evidently not belonging to the hill. We then went down to Caerynwch and after a long beat Bess drew on fine covey of 10 birds out of which we were fortunate enough to kill 5 birds. We walked home and got in Caeafon Caerynwch moor Grouse 7 Caeafon 2. Caerynwch moor 5

Friday, 20 August [1880]. Heatley and I made a late start up to shoot Cae Coch, and we drove in the pony cart to Drws y nant. Kinsey was unable to come with us owing to illness, so we only took the pointer Nell. We found very few birds, all old ones I think and they were very wild. However shooting was not so straight as it ought to have been and I let several birds off. We lost a grouse and a snipe. Heatley was rather unlucky in getting shots. We were home by six. Saturday, 21 August 1880 We had a picnic at Llyn Cynwch today. A dry easterly wind still continues and it was very fine. Heatley and I started up in the morning and fished for Perch with minnows all day. By lunch time we had 16, and caught 20 afterwards fishing till 6.45. The Perch did not bite well all day, but singularly we lost very few. Mr Vaughan was up at the Lake during the afternoon. Llyn Cynwch Perch 36 2 rods

We began at the top of the Bwlch and beat Pen y geulan hill first. We found a good covey and several scattered birds. Unfortunately on Pant there was peat cutting going on which of course materially affected our chance of finding birds, but we picked up 2 or 3 brace, and made up to 6 1/2. Of course Jack Ellis had scented is out and had beaten all the Voel. However we stuck steadily to our work, and by dint of careful shooting we killed 4 1/2 brace. We saw some good coveys near Lord Powis`s boundary and one very good one on Pengelli, and Jack Ellis drove us some birds off Pengelli. We came down by Penantigi [(Wenion)??] but failed to find the [demon??] covey! where does it get to? Monday 30th August [1880] A fine bright day. Strong SE breeze all day, which tempered the heat. Kinsey and I with W Roberts went up to Llanuwchllyn by the 8.40 train to shoot Bwlch y groes and Pant. We found a covey on Penygeulan but they were very wild. Kinsey killed one, and I knocked down another afterwards which however got up again and we lost him over the cliff. We saw Jack Ellis on Pant so we went off after him as quick as possible, but he went on Dr Roberts`s land; at all events he had disturbed the ground so much that we only killed to brace. Started back to Llanuwchllyn soon after six and returned by the 8.40 train. Bwlch y groes 6. = 103 Grouse
