Y Tywyddiadur

Prif nodwedd y gronfa hon yw'r dyddiad, mis neu'r flwyddyn penodol sydd yn sail i'ch cofnod. Mae'r tywydd wrth gwrs yn rhywbeth sydd yn digwydd "rwan", pryd bynnag yw neu oedd "rwan" i'r cofnodwr gwreiddiol; y bore yma efallai, diwrnod arbennig yn eich plentyndod, neu sylw mewn dyddiadur dwy ganrif yn ôl yn sir Feirionnydd.... efallai. Neu efallai bod cysylltiad y sylw a'r tywydd yn ymddangosiadol wan iawn: tylluan wen yn hela am dri o'r gloch y prynhawn ar ddyddiad arbennig o Chwefror; clywed y gog yn canu ddiwedd mis Mawrth; teilo cae at datws ddechrau’r gwanwyn. Tywydd....? efallai! Ffenoleg...? yn bendant.

Mae'r Tywyddiadur yn rhyngweithiol - hynny yw, mi allwch rhoi gwybodaeth i fewn iddo, neu chael gwybodaeth allan. Y cam cyntaf y byddwch yn cymryd wrth fentro ar y dudalen hon felly fydd dewis pa un rydych am ei wneud.... Chwilio ynteu Mewnbynnu (blychod chwilio ar y chwith mewn glas, blychod mewnbynnu ar y dde mewn coch).

(Ewch i’r gwaelod am ganllawiau cychwynnol).

CHWILIO: Chi biau’r dewis: mis neu gyfnod arbennig efallai, blwyddyn, gair (neu ddau air), neu ddiwrnod penodol (treiwch ddyddiad eich pen-blwydd). Cewch wneud cyfuniad o rhain.

MEWNBYNNU: Trwy fewnbynnu cewch ychwanegu at y gronfa a chreu adnodd mwy cynhwysfawr fyth i ymchwilwyr fel chi. Dim ond tri amod sydd ar eich cofnod: ei fod yn cynnwys rhyw fath o ddyddiad, lleoliad (bras neu fanwl), a bod y cofnod rhywfodd yn gysylltiedig â’r amgylchedd.

Wednesday August 28th I got up at 7 o`clock and rowed out in a boat and had a bath in the lake: it was dead calm. We breakfasted at 8 o`clock and we went out fishing soon after as a nice breeze sprang up which blew moderately till 12 o`clock; afterwards it was much too strong and squally for fishing. By lunchtime 2 o`clock I had caught 5 nice trout; the Minor 3; we then determined to go home as it was a very little use fishing in such a strong wind. I walked home from the bottom of the pass and we were home just in time 6 o`clock to dress and go with our People to the Richards (Carnguwch) dance.... Trout 9

Thursday August 29th My birthday. The Minor and I started by the 8.40 train from Bontnewydd to Llanderfel to shoot with Mr Robertson Pale .... We got to Pale about 930 and the Minor and I went out shooting together on Pale Hill. It was a cloudy and windy day and the birds were dreadfully wild. Only once did we shoot at a covey and most of the birds we killed were single. We had a very joly day and shot till 6 o`clock and were back at Pale in time for dinner at 7.30 .... Friday August 30th We had breakfast at 8.30 but did not start out shooting till nearly 11 o`clock when we drove to Llandrillo to shoot on the Moor above the town there were 5 guns; Mr Robertson and Captain [Merriweather] shooting together while the Minor, Tom Sheriff and I shot on another beat. It was a windy but bright day, more favourable than yesterday, but the birds were very wild and ungetatable; at lunch time (2 o`clock) we had 14 brace, 4 Snipe 1 Hare. The Minor and I had to leave the hill at 4 o`clock in order to catch the 5.10 train home and we shot 2 brace more. We got home all right in time for dinner at 7.45. Saturday August 31st We had breakfast at 7 o`clock and went out on the river as it was in capital order for a fly: we fished the Ford and Handbridge Pools first, and at the latter I rose a sea trout: we then drove up to Bontnewydd and fished down: but our sport was back as the Sea trout rose very shyly and were not easily hooked. We had to be in soon after 3; as we went away by the 5.10 train to stay with Colonel Pryce at Peithyll for some partridge shooting.... we did not reach Peithyll till 9 o`clock as the engine broke down at Borth. It was a fine day. Sea trout 1 Trout 30 Total for the week:- On the Wnion. Monday September 2nd We had breakfast at 6 o`clock and drove off to our beat about 4 miles off near Borth. We had to start early as we had to cut another man out - Pary - who shoots on the same ground. It was fairly fine throughout the day and the partridges on the whole were well grown and lay well: we saw only two coveys of unshootable birds. The coveys also were numerous and as the shooting was pretty straight we had a most enjoyable day but we were very tired when we gave up about 6 o`clock as the walking was very rough and hilly. Sir Pryce Pryce, ME and LE shot 17 brace. Colonel Pryce ME and LE Partridges 37 Hares 3 Landrails 1 = 41 head

Tuesday September 3rd Colonel Pryce chose for his beat today one which he thought very good but it turned out very disappointing: to begin with we had a heavy thunderstorm in the morning which drove the birds into the hedges. The Minor was out fishing in the morning and caught a good Sewin and after 12 we went for a tramp after partridges towards the Fron Mines and near Coed. We saw 2 very good coveys, but were very unlucky with them and unable to mark them down. The consequence was we did not come across them again. We greatly wanted a dog. I shot the snipe at the Mines.... we had a wet drive home at 1045 .... Partridges 1 Snipe 1 Sewin 1

September 18th It was a very windy day and the wind cold from the North. Rashleigh, the Minor and I drove to Coedmaesonglog to look for Partridge. ... We only found 6 birds on this farm and I killed a snipe: we then took Jack and the phaeton to Cefn Braich and shot over Blaenau and Cefn Braich and Braich Beddw [sic]. We however had a good walk up till 6 o`clock and a very heavy shower put an end to our walk - Partridges 2 Snipe 2 Raven 1 which was shot by the Minor on Coedmaeswglog and was a fine bird

Thursday September 19th It was very showery this morning and the Minor and I got up at 5.30 and fished before breakfast but it was very little use, although the Minor hooked two or three Sewin in Dolgun Poole. The Minor started for Eton by the 10.30 train.... till 12.30 when I went out fishing the river being very high but not dirty. I began at the Ford Pool and at the head of the Pool rose a grilse which I eventually hooked and killed after some exciting sport. I had good fun with sea trout, but lost a great many. The river-watcher was with me all the afternoon and I fished up to Bont Newydd. Grilse 1 4 [and a half] pounds Sea trout 5

Monday September 23rd It rained very hard from SW most of the day: the river came down in a heavy flood, so about 11 o`clock I began fishing at the Ford with worm, and Rashleigh joined me after lunch. The fish bit very badly but I hooked two large fish in the Ford Pool; the other at the bottom of Dolgun Pool. In the evening for about half an hour I was able to use Fly but had only time to hook one Sea trout at the end of Bathing Pool but which unfortunately got off as I was landing it. The river was just getting intu good order for a fly when the dark put an end to our fishing..... Sea trout 2 Trout 16 Rashleigh Trout 2 = 20

Tuesday September 24th A very cold day - wind NE. After breakfast we fished up the river beginning at Dolgun, and by lunch time we got to the Big Pool, but had not caught a single fish as they would not rise at all; not even the small trout. So we walked as quick as we could go to the Five mile Bridge hoping to catch something there, but we were disappointed. It was very wet this afternoon: I lost Rashleigh on the river and walked home alone fishing a few pools on my way.... Trout 3

But as a caught two Sea trout and lost enough before 12 o`clock I went home to fetch Rashleigh and we walked up to Bont Newydd and fished down. I only saw two Sea trout which I killed on small trout flies. I fished down to Dolgun till 6.30 and it was quite dark when I left off. Friday September 27th It blew a heavy gale with deluges of rain from the SW during the night; and it was a very wet and windy day. The river of course was in high flood and I began fishing alone about 10.30 at the Ford Pool where I caught two sea trout with worm. I then walked up to two pools on the way to Bont Newydd and caught some find trout and also a sea trout about 1lb. If it has not been for the wind I should have had grand sport but I could hardly get my line on the water. I tried fly at the Ford Pool, and rose one fish but it was really too dirty. I fished up at Dolgun Pool where I caught a sea trout, and nearly pulled another out of the water; and at 5.30 the wind forced me to give up fishing all together. Sea trout 4 Trout 21

Saturday September 28th ... The wind was very high today from W and heavy showers of rain fell during the day. The river was very high but not at all dirty. We worked as usual from 6.30 till 9.30 and then Rashleigh and I began fishing at Dolgun Pool where I tried both fly and worm and got a Sea trout with both. Odd to say the rest of my day was very unlucky as I had fished the best pools up the river as far as Bont Newydd and only hooked one sea trout. I then walked up with [Hensie] who carried my landing net as far as the Five Mile Bridge Pool, but did no good there as the water was too high. I rose 1 sea trout lower down. Sunday September 29th Michaelmas Day. A fine day for a wander but a strong wind from NW. Breakfast at 10 and I walked into church with Mr Robinson and Rashleigh... walked home in time for lunch at 1.30. Monday September 30th After breakfast I walked down to the bridge and found the river in good order for trout flies but very bright. I fished the "crooked pool" and then took a few casts off the top of the bridge and rose a large fish and hooked him off the next cast. I had a great sport with him off the bridge and on my light tackle but after a time I managed to get off the Bridge on to the bank and luckily Rashleigh joined me with a landing net: it proved to be a grilse 2 [and a half pounds] and caught on a small red spinner! I fished a long way up the river almost to the five mile bridge: Rashleigh landed my fish for me; I caught a nice brown trout [half a pound] and I hooked three Sea trout and got one. It rained hard this evening and we walked home ... grilse 1 Sea trout 1 Trout 15

Tuesday October 1st The river was in excellent order and it was a nice and mild day. Mr Robinson came out fishing with me and we began at Dolgun Pool and fished up. I hooked a grilse in the bathing pool: but it was in such an awkward place and in such rough water that I could not hold him. We lunched at the Big Pool where we found the pole of a net evidently used the night before by poachers. All we did was one small Sea trout caught by Mr Robinson and a few small trout: we fished up to Bont Newydd and then walked home and I tried a few pools about the house before going in. Wednesday October 2nd It had rained during the night and the river was very high and a nice colour for fly. At 10.30 I walked alone down to the Ford and began fishing with worms. Rashleigh joined me: I soon had up a fly but fished down to the pool at the bottom of the field without having a rise but here I hooked a nice fish at the bottom of the pool. He jumped tremendously and had I some one with a landing net I might have landed him almost immediately but he got into rough water and led me a nice scramble through the river after him to the next pool about 100 yards below. Luckily he was well hooked and I landed him with my hands. He proved to be a large sea trout 2 [and a half pounds] which had been in the river a long time as he was quite yellow. I caught him on a red bodied Sea trout fly with a light wing. I fished afterwards to Bont Newydd but had no further success. Mr Robinson went to the Dee but only got 1 grayling - Sea trout 1 [2 and a half pounds]

Davis came out fishing with me today and we walked over to the Mawddach. It became very cold about 12 o`clock as the wind went to the East. The river however was in excellent order for fly and I began fishing at the "poachers pool". I rose one Sea trout, a large one at the Pool where the mine water comes in and this was the only fish I saw before lunch which I had about 2 o`clock at Tynygroes. After lunch I tried the worm without success: and then tried the fly again but it was no good as not a fish would stir. I gave up fishing at 5.30 and we walked home around by the copper mine and on the road through Nannau: got home at 7 o`clock. Used the "Blue Doctor" all the day as tail fly.

October 4th 9.30...It was a very cold today wind NE and fine. It was useless going fishing today so I went out for a walk with my gun and Rashleigh came with me: also Davies and J. Ellis to beat. We first looked for pheasants but only saw one young hen which I shot: and then we walked over to the Mines; on our way there I shot a Landrail which however saw .... hedge and was lost. We got to the Mines to our great disgust we found Pugh up there with two other guns and his dogs. He had been there all the morning, so Kensie told us: and had scattered the partridges in all directions. We fell in with two birds; but I only shot one of them. Wetthen walked over to Coed to look for the covey there, but could not find them, and I returned home through the plantation after a good walk, but no sport. A frosty and clear night .... Pheasant 1
