Y Tywyddiadur

Prif nodwedd y gronfa hon yw'r dyddiad, mis neu'r flwyddyn penodol sydd yn sail i'ch cofnod. Mae'r tywydd wrth gwrs yn rhywbeth sydd yn digwydd "rwan", pryd bynnag yw neu oedd "rwan" i'r cofnodwr gwreiddiol; y bore yma efallai, diwrnod arbennig yn eich plentyndod, neu sylw mewn dyddiadur dwy ganrif yn ôl yn sir Feirionnydd.... efallai. Neu efallai bod cysylltiad y sylw a'r tywydd yn ymddangosiadol wan iawn: tylluan wen yn hela am dri o'r gloch y prynhawn ar ddyddiad arbennig o Chwefror; clywed y gog yn canu ddiwedd mis Mawrth; teilo cae at datws ddechrau’r gwanwyn. Tywydd....? efallai! Ffenoleg...? yn bendant.

Mae'r Tywyddiadur yn rhyngweithiol - hynny yw, mi allwch rhoi gwybodaeth i fewn iddo, neu chael gwybodaeth allan. Y cam cyntaf y byddwch yn cymryd wrth fentro ar y dudalen hon felly fydd dewis pa un rydych am ei wneud.... Chwilio ynteu Mewnbynnu (blychod chwilio ar y chwith mewn glas, blychod mewnbynnu ar y dde mewn coch).

(Ewch i’r gwaelod am ganllawiau cychwynnol).

CHWILIO: Chi biau’r dewis: mis neu gyfnod arbennig efallai, blwyddyn, gair (neu ddau air), neu ddiwrnod penodol (treiwch ddyddiad eich pen-blwydd). Cewch wneud cyfuniad o rhain.

MEWNBYNNU: Trwy fewnbynnu cewch ychwanegu at y gronfa a chreu adnodd mwy cynhwysfawr fyth i ymchwilwyr fel chi. Dim ond tri amod sydd ar eich cofnod: ei fod yn cynnwys rhyw fath o ddyddiad, lleoliad (bras neu fanwl), a bod y cofnod rhywfodd yn gysylltiedig â’r amgylchedd.

Monday, October 9 Another very fine day, after a white frost in the morning. I went up by 8.40 train to Drws y Nant to shoot Cae Coch. I began by beating stubbles, and put up two small lots of birds four and three, and these were the only partridges I saw all day. I killed a brace and a half, and then went up to try for some grouse, and by means of stalking and walking very quietly I killed a brace, and ought to have had a brace more. I saw two very nice lots. I beat most of the brushwood afterwards, but only saw one hare, and as I heard from the Ty cerig [sic Ty Cerrig] tenant that there were no partridges about, I gave up about five, and went to Drws y nant Tun, had some tea, and returned by rail. Cae coch Partridges 3 Ty cerig. Grouse 2

Tuesday, October 10th. A fine morning, though it became rainy and unsettled in the afternoon. Lewis Self came up by the early train from Arthog to shoot with me, and we began by beating the strip along the railway. I went on the road, while Lewis Self with his terriers was on the railway. We saw a good many rabbits, but did not account for them. I killed one hen pheasant, and we saw another. After this we went up to Tyddyn Moch which we beat, but only saw one Cock pheasant which I killed, and we beat parts of Dolgwarthog, and then as it was wet we went into the farmhouse for lunch . It was too wet to beat any more coverts; though we began but had to give up, and I lost one Cock pheasant. We had a turn at ferreting, but the rabbits would not bolt. Dolserau strip Rabbits 4. Wednesday, October 11 It was rainy this morning, and I began ferreting in Dolgun, but as it cleared up a bit, I sent William back for Tip and Hide, and started Up to Tyddyn, and beat from Coed to Trefeilian, but only saw one Cock pheasant and a brace of old birds. When I reached Tyddyn I went up immediately to Pensarn, and at the farm house had my lunch. The tenant had seen a woodcock on sunday [8 Hydref] but he was not at home today. I had good fun with a covey of partridges, but the rain was very unfavourable, but it was pretty shooting [sic. ??]. Saw three or four hares, but did not get a shot. I came home over the Fron Mines. Thursday, October 12 A very fine day. Wind again easterly and dry. Major O`Callaghan (who arrived yesterday) and I went up to Blaenau to day, but had a poor days sport; but we were very unlucky, as we found a nice covey of partridges near Braich beddw [sic Braich Bedw] immediately, but they were very wild, and we lost them. Another Covey on Dolowen we could not find, and we only found three old birds on Shebonwydd. We had a long walk before lunch which we had at Braich beddw Farm. After lunch we tried to find the large covey again, but did not do so, and as rain became [?] we beat across Sebonwydd [sic. Sebonig?] homewards. Saw one Hare. Friday, October 13 A dull and misty day. We started over to Talyllyn about 9.15, walking up the Torrent where the trap met us. It was a warm day with an easterly brieze [sic. breeze], which was rather strong in the morning. We did not begin fishing until 11.30, and the trout were rising then, as I hooked three nice fish consecutively but only landed one. After this we did very little, and in the afternoon they would not take at all , But fishing Talyllyn in October is hardly likely to prove successful. We saw some large trout jumping, also a salmon or two. We enjoyed our day, although we had no sport. I killed the 5 trout. Talyllyn. Trout 5

Saturday, October 14 A fine day, wind NE. This morning "Peter", the Major and I beat the strip across the river, but saw no rabbits at all and only got 1 hen pheasant, 2 rabbits and a wood pigeon. Then Major O`Callaghan went to the Wnion to fish, while Peter and I walked up to Corsygarnedd and on the stubbles of Caeheuadd [sic] we put up two coveys of partridges one of which consisting of nine birds we sent the right way, and scattering them in the brushwood, we had some pretty sport. Lunch at 12:30, and Peter left me at 3 o`clock, but we had beaten all the brushwood then. I expected to see Woodcock, but saw no trace of one. I came across the partridges again and killed one bird, also a hare and a rabbit, and I returned home about 4.45. Friday, October 20 A very showery day. Major O`Callaghan and I made a start to the Mawddach at 8 o`clock, and found the river in rather low ply [sic], but showers in the afternoon caused it to rise in the evening. We went up to the Falls, and I alone moved a fish, and that was in the Tyddyn y Gladys [sic] hole. Kinsey however had fished the Glan-yr-avon [sic Glanyrafon] pools, and had caught a salmon. Later in the afternoon we went to the water below Tyn y groes, but Bicknel had been there: however as we had decided to stay at Tyn-y-groes the night we went on late. I caught a grilse 4 1/2 lbs in the upper Bryn cemlyn Pool, on a large silver bodied fly. I went down as far as Gethigemllyn [sic. Gelligemlyn?]. Major O`C caught a small sewin. Saturday, October 21 We had breakfast at 7 o`clock, and I started to the upper water at 7:45. Rain duringi the night put the river in good order, and more water came down in the afternoon which made it almost too dirty for fly. Major O`C tried the pools below Tyn y groes, and joined me later in the afternoon, and I am sorry he had no luck. I caught my first fish in Tyddyn y gladys, raising him twice to a double hooked Stevenson with Milo doing a pattern Ashley gave me to try . The second fish I caught at the top pool below the falls on the double hook Stevenson. Both fish I played and gaffed alone, Kinsey who had promised to come with me never turning up. I rose another fish 3 times to a Durham Ranger in the small pool above Tyddyn y gladys [sic]: and also another late in the evening at the tail of the First Long Pool in the wood. This fish rose twice to my fly. Major O`C touched a fish in Tyddyn y Gladys. The sewin I caught with a worm at the top pool below the Falls when the river became rather discoloured. The Squire and Mrs O`Callaghan met us. Mawddach CEME Salmon 1 11 1/2lbs Tyddyn y gladys Salmon 1. 11 1/2 lbs top pool below falls as to fly see above Sewiin 1 2 3/4lbs

Monday, October 23 Major O`Callaghan and I made a start to the river soon after 8, and drove to Aber Eden, and I began at Cornelius`s, and then joined Major O`C at the Glen yr Avon [sic] bridge. Unfortunately he had to send back for his [??] which he had left behind in his coat, so I began fishing just above the bridge and in the first pool killed a nice grilse, oddly enough in the pool where I never remember meeting a good fish before. We fished right up to the Falls, but did not meet another fish, and we also tried below Glen yr avon, down to the meeting of the Waters. Wiliams of Tyn y groes drove us home. Mawddach. Tuesday, October 24 I walked over to the Mawddach this morning with William Roberts, and began fishing at Gethi gemlyn. I found the river in much the same order as yesterday. I walked up to Glen yr afon [sic] and fished up to the Falls, but did not meet a single fish all day, nor did I see one until we came down to Dolgoed, where we saw a very large fish jump. I cannot account for the sulkiness of the fish; as the river was in very fair order. I fished right down to Bryn cemlyn, and Edward met me with the cart at about 5.30.

We found though no snipe, and I only got a `Jack` at Coed.. Lunched at the Cross Foxes, and then beat the Gwanas Bank on the chance of finding a Cock, but did not. We came Home across Caerynwch moor, and Major O`C killed a very fine Cock Grouse. We only found two partridges, and only saw one other snipe. We enjoyed our walk very much. Thursday, October 26 A cold and showery day, after a white frost at night. Major O`C and I took the 8.40 train up to Drws y nant and went to Cae Coch. We tried for grouse but only got a single bird: the packs were unapproachable. Found one small covey of partridges, killing a brace and a half, and we saw three hares. We did not see a Woodcock, although there had been one or two about in the scrub, and we also saw traces of pheasants. A heavy shower sent us on our way home, and we walked home preferring to do so instead of waiting a long time for the train. Cae Coch.. Grouse 1. Partridges 3. Hare 1

Friday, October 27. A cold but lovely day, wind easterly. After 9.30 breakfast I drove up to Hengwrt Ucha, and walked up to Blainai [sic]. Major O`C stayed at home, and puddled about for sewin. Saturday, October 28 A cold day, but fine. Wind NE. Major O`C and I started about 10.32 to Tyddyn to hunt for Woodcock, but we found the coverts so thick, we could do nothing during the morning, although we flushed one Cock. After lunch we walked up to Pensarn, and here found a nice covey of partidges, but we did not follow them up: as the Major put up another Woodcock, as he was getting over a stone wall, and we went down on the chance of finding it again, but we did not. We came home through Coed, and on Maes Helmed, I killed two pheasants, the only ones seen. The pigeons we stalked on the stubble, but the less said about them the better, as they were hardly "Fera natura". We were home early about 5 o`clock, and had what I call rather an unlucky day. Monday, November 6 A lovely morning, fine and mild, but rain came on in the afternoon, but it did not stop us shooting. I shot today with Major Yeatman Biggs: and we had a pleasant round after partridges, and in some of the [L....] saw plenty of birds, but we wanted another gun or two very much. I shot well and killed 13 partridges, and lost two other. Red legs were numerous, and were hard to find if they fell with merely a wing broken. Guns 2. Pevington to Welcome Corner Partridges 16.
