Barometer 30.28 (1145 p.m.) NE Rather cold but sunny. Rough sea and a good deal of wreckage ( from the jelly?). In the afternoon visit the Little Orme quarry with Auntie & Edward. A particularly interesting new cutting on the hillside opposite Trwyn-y-fuwch (SW) disclosing large beds of chert ( millstone grit) from which I secure specimen.

Take them to school as specimens for the Children`s Nature Notes (first of the autumn term)..... Barometer 30.42 to 30.2. Another gloriously fine day. Meet Mr Vallum in the afternoon with his left left arm in a sling from shot wounds yesterday, out rabbit shooting with a friend. Hit on the top of the shoulder behind the scapula & at the side of the fore arm & one shot just in front of the left temple.... Show the comet to Annie & Lizzie at Plas Estyn... Miss Evans tells me that a second comet is visible from ....

Barometer 29.98 rising to 30.10 (at 10:15 p.m.). Dull with mizzling rain during earlier part of morning. Rather cold north westerly wind rising tonight.... Failed to find the Comet tonight. Last night it was less distinct than on the previous nights since I first saw it on the 18th.... George, Dollie and Nelly get a fine gathering of blackberries from the old lane (beneath Bryn y bya Rd.)

Pheasant Shooting begins. arometer 30.1 to 30.7 fine the times cloudy as the last of the seasons visitors have left we decide to take a holiday... to Roe Wen to gather blackberries. Take the 10 o`clock Silver Motor Bus to Conway ....show george the statue of Llewelyn ap Iorwerth, founder of Conway Abbey 1184 - and walk round the outside of Plas Mawr = eat our lunch on the roadside to Roe - where Dora meets us on her bike...Hear the guns of the pheasant shooters... Gather 9lbs of blackberries down by the river and returning take tea at misses davis`s then home. I think we all feel we have spent a very enjoyable day. While at lunch we watched a little stoat that came out of a hole in the wall and ran across the hedge bank

Barometer 30.1 - 30.12. A fine day. We` all take the day`s holiday & with granny bus to Deganwy and take the Prince George to Trefriw past the derelict "Anna Olga" moored off Bodlondeb (The Anna Olga was grounded on the sands in Llandudno about 2 years ago). Splendid steam up the Conway .... Great variety of birdlife up the river. Herons, peewit wild ducks, moorhens and coots, gulls as far as Talycafn Bridge, also bladderwrack (Fucus nodosus) floating on the river as far as the bridge. Land at the stage opposite Bellevue, Trefriw.....

Miss Woodcock while painting near Conwy was taken by one of the soldiers... by the CO & had her painting temporarily confiscated -tho` returned today .. At Glain Orme I found 2 of 3 tortoises dormant and in similar positions occupied by them last Thursday (12th) the third has come from the shelter under the influence of today`s sun. He showed very little activity however....
