Barometer 28.90 - 29.20. Unsettled strong westerly winds and heavy showers.. Rather cold, some sunshine. A Magnificent Rainbow with perfect and distinct [reflection] above, shortly after 1 o`clock against a blue sky over the sea. While on duty at the range in the afternoon Mr Lewis [& I] witnessed a very exciting rescue by the Lifeboat of a small boats crew of three. The sea at the time was running with a heavy swell and the strong winds of driving rain adding to it tempestuous appearance. The small boat was being knocked about & appeared to be half full of water. Each swell as it caught his broadside, broke over her in a spraying [...] and her occupants who were otherwise engaged in bailing out the water must have got thoroughly wet to the skin. We witnessed the rescue thro` the range telescope

There is snow (or hail) on the summit of Voel Vras. I noticed this some days ago. Barometer stationary at 29.25. Day dull, damp & rather cold but no rain. Watch 2 Herring Gull this morning who perch quite close to where I am standing, on the wall of the Marine Drive, the farther side of the Pier entrance (past the Grand Hotel). I notice that the under mandible the beat is tipped with bright red....

A very rough sea this morning in spite of which I notice a large number of gulls upon the water. At Glain Orme I find the 3 tortoises similarly placed to last week....

Winter commences most seasonably. The sharp frost which continues. Fine clear weather. Before the sun rose above Tan y Bryn hill, the hill was enveloped by heavy mist clouds which lifted shortly after the sun came in view. Talyfan was covered with hail also the top of Penmaen mawr....
