Quite mild but rateher chilly after tea with cold rain from the east 9:30 p.m. Baro. 29.40. The male catkins of the Sallow Willow are showing their white tips thro` the bud. See a water rail in William`s field (the Poter`s) (Jan. 26th/14). Very marshy at present. Its note is a mellow & repeated pipe, often repeated....

A sharp frosty night (24-25) & early morning. Fine sunny day. Witnessed a remarkable sunset with Mr Simson, from Milford, West Shore. The sun went down behind Anglesey, a glorious golden orange disc, & was reflected on the water as a distinct orange golden path, the breadth of the sun`s disc. It was magnificent....

Sunny and frosty. East wind. See and hear 2 Raven from the Happy Valley. They fly over the cliffs of the Great Orme (just above and past the Toll gates ). While seated at the Happy Valley, a robin perched on the seat within less than a foot off me. When I left, he accompanied me as far as Myneddfan, where I noticed for the first time that he had the three front toes on the left foot missing
