Y Tywyddiadur

Prif nodwedd y gronfa hon yw'r dyddiad, mis neu'r flwyddyn penodol sydd yn sail i'ch cofnod. Mae'r tywydd wrth gwrs yn rhywbeth sydd yn digwydd "rwan", pryd bynnag yw neu oedd "rwan" i'r cofnodwr gwreiddiol; y bore yma efallai, diwrnod arbennig yn eich plentyndod, neu sylw mewn dyddiadur dwy ganrif yn ôl yn sir Feirionnydd.... efallai. Neu efallai bod cysylltiad y sylw a'r tywydd yn ymddangosiadol wan iawn: tylluan wen yn hela am dri o'r gloch y prynhawn ar ddyddiad arbennig o Chwefror; clywed y gog yn canu ddiwedd mis Mawrth; teilo cae at datws ddechrau’r gwanwyn. Tywydd....? efallai! Ffenoleg...? yn bendant.

Mae'r Tywyddiadur yn rhyngweithiol - hynny yw, mi allwch rhoi gwybodaeth i fewn iddo, neu chael gwybodaeth allan. Y cam cyntaf y byddwch yn cymryd wrth fentro ar y dudalen hon felly fydd dewis pa un rydych am ei wneud.... Chwilio ynteu Mewnbynnu (blychod chwilio ar y chwith mewn glas, blychod mewnbynnu ar y dde mewn coch).

(Ewch i’r gwaelod am ganllawiau cychwynnol).

CHWILIO: Chi biau’r dewis: mis neu gyfnod arbennig efallai, blwyddyn, gair (neu ddau air), neu ddiwrnod penodol (treiwch ddyddiad eich pen-blwydd). Cewch wneud cyfuniad o rhain.

MEWNBYNNU: Trwy fewnbynnu cewch ychwanegu at y gronfa a chreu adnodd mwy cynhwysfawr fyth i ymchwilwyr fel chi. Dim ond tri amod sydd ar eich cofnod: ei fod yn cynnwys rhyw fath o ddyddiad, lleoliad (bras neu fanwl), a bod y cofnod rhywfodd yn gysylltiedig â’r amgylchedd.

(My 50th year completed today). There has been heavy rain through the night. Forenoon dulll and cloudy. Some sunshine during the afternoon. The cold winds of last week have cut up the young tree foliage sadly on the N. side where exposed. The horse chestnut tree in front of the house is badly blighted on the N. side. There is a fine show of the early purple orchis (D. maculata) [!!!] at Pen y ralllt.

In this mornings paper there is an account of apalling earthquake disaster in Sicily (on the slopes of Mount Etna) At least 3 villages appear to have been destroyed. Death roll not yet known but believed to be about 200 - mostly women and children It happened last friday May 8th

Cold west wind coming over the hills - the further hills ((Carnedd Llewelyn) being snow capped. Some sunshine during the morning. I notice many fledgling thrushes about yesterday. I noticed young Rooks calling to their parents for food. Olearia Macrodonta (the Daisy Tree) is in full blossom & has been from the 1st if not indeed earlier - Its usual flowering period is June. Mr Actel tells me he has picked Lepidium draba in a field near. A Kentish botanist staying with him for the week end found 196 wild plants in bloom here while at his home he had gathered only 56 (The 196 include the 56 found at his home locality) [Lepidium draba pupurlys llwyd A perennial rhizomatous herb of roadsides, and on dry limestone or clinker ballast of railways. It also grows on waste ground, in arable fields on light soils, on sand dunes and other sandy ground, particularly near the sea, and in the uppermost zone of saltmarshes. Lowland. Neophyte (change +0.06). Accidentally introduced to Swansea (Glamorgan) in 1802, and subsequently to other ports, L. draba spread rapidly in the 19th century, particularly in urban and industrial areas. Its range has expanded in Britain since the 1962 Atlas, but not in Ireland. Native of S. Europe and S.W. Asia; naturalised throughout temperate W. Europe, N. America and the S. hemisphere. A grey day: mild. Returning from the Central School 9:45 p.m. we hear the "Crek! Crek" of the Corncrake. On reaching Aileen Craig, we hear for the first time the note of the corncrake from Thomas` field opposite. Miss Woodcock tells me that she has seen the Jackdaws plucking hair from the horses in the fields quite recently.

A glorious day. Sunny and warm. Alice and I hear the Cuckoo from our front garden. This is the first time for us and save for a [....] pocket neither of us have a coin much to our annoyance. We have a most enjoyable picnic at Castell again and afterwards walk through the Keepers Wood when we meet Edward & Edwin. Long tailed tits. The Ash trees are very backward only a very backward only a very few beginning to show leaf. Burnet roses in bloom. George finds Darby the tortoise in the centre of a patch of aubretia in the in the front garden

Fine and sunny day. The heat tempered by a gentle westerly breeze. 5:30 p.m. an aeroplane (biplane) passes over the town. Seen by cousins Gabriel and Ellie and Dolly while having tea on the shore. Also by mother from the prom while on her way to the station to meet Nelly Tarbath from Shrewsbury. The midges are biting badly today

Fine and very warm. Busy at Glain Orme from soon after 9 to nearly 9.30 at night bedding out Calendulas, [Nernessa] and Lobelia. 2 fine rose blooms, Mr Hoops tells me he has cut some fine roses this week. Magnolia speciosa has one bloom [head] only, it is just expanding. Last year this little shrub (about 2 and a half to 3 feet high] was covered with bloom as early as April 12th.

Very fine & sunny & very hot. Brisk west breeze which rises about 8 p.m. YIeuan busy pruning the Elder hedge at the Cottage. It blew thro` the trees in a manner suggestive of coming rain. A very pretty thing happened as I was coming home to dinner at noon. The ["Plugger"] met me at the front garden and we walked down the path to the back of the house together. 3 white Cabbage Butterflies came from the garden border and flew circling around the Pluggers head much to his delighr. "Oh Daddy, you must put that in your Diary " said my little son.

East wind: grey to commence with but sunny for the greater part of the day. The big event of the day has been visits of the airman Lieut. REP Hughes from the Morfa camp. 3 times he veloplaned down the sands. He flew in a [monoplane]. It appears to be a layer machine [that used] by Hewitt of Rhyl when he flew over the town last year. Craig Pugh tells me that too monoplanes took part in this afternoons manoeuvers and that there are 3 at present on the Conway Morfa 1 biplane & 2 monoplanes.

A fine & sunny day but rather chilly East. Not as cold as yesterday.I was up all night working on the drawings and a most interesting thing happened about 10 a.m. I heard what i took to be a cat scratching at the window. 4 times this happened and each time I looked but saw nothing to account for it. It was a dark night but the light from the window partially illuminated the yard. I began to feel just a bit "creepy". The fifth time a flung the window aside and then the corner of the sill a bird. I put my hand out and got hold of it - a young starling. From its beak protrudedl the wings of a daddy long legs and a moth.......
